Discover Concordia: culture, art, and events
Accommodation in Concordia
Concordia offers several specific points of interest to consider when planning a hotel stay: historic sites, a large-scale brick mural, and events. Depending on whether you’re interested in history, art, or a particular event, you can tailor the focus of your visit.
Cultural History and the Museum
Nazareth Convent and Academy was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Its historic significance lies in the institution itself; the museum has a specific exhibit to explore as well.
The Cloud County Historical Society Museum is housed in a former Andrew Carnegie library. The building’s former use as a library is a distinct historical aspect alongside its current function as a museum. The museum also displays a full-scale 1928 Lincoln-Page biplane.
The museum also offers Brown Bag lunch programs and guided tours. These activities complement the information about the building and exhibit with organized events. If you want to include a tour or program in your day’s plans, check the current schedule in advance, as availability may change.
Art and Venues
The Whole Wall Mural offers a different point of interest. The sculptural brick mural is 140 feet long and made of 6,400 oversized bricks; it is described as the largest sculptural brick mural in the United States. Here, the design itself takes center stage, while the museum is defined by the building’s former use and a specific exhibit.
Broadway Plaza brings together several event and visitor amenities: it features a stage, a large LED screen, and a fully automated, ground-level splash pad. There are also public restrooms and a concessions area on event days. The concessions area is available only on those days; the other amenities may also be subject to maintenance or event-related restrictions. If you’re planning to use specific amenities, check current conditions before your visit.
Broadway Plaza hosts concerts, movies, and other outdoor events. The schedule changes over time. If a particular concert, movie, or other event is central to your stay, confirm the date against current information before traveling.
Events and Getting There
Another reason to visit is Concordia’s annual Fall Fest, which features food in the downtown area. Unlike Broadway Plaza’s changing event schedule, the annual festival is the key point of reference for planning. Check the current festival date before arranging your hotel stay around it.
You can also plan your route using specific local references: US-81 and KS-9 both run through Concordia. If you’re planning your own route, you can use the names of both highways as guides and coordinate them with the travel date for your chosen reason to visit.
