Cycling enthusiasts can compare two paved trails in Cresco by length and route. Architectural and historical themes are also part of the picture, along with a snowmobile trail network associated with winter. This lets you plan your trip around a trail, architectural history, or regional collections.

Paved Trails and Winter Routes

The 2.5-mile paved Prairie Springs Recreational Trail runs from Cresco to Vernon Springs. The also-paved Prairie Farmer Trail is considerably longer at 22 miles and follows the abandoned Milwaukee railroad line between Cresco, Ridgeway, and Calmar. The difference lies in both length and route: the Prairie Springs Recreational Trail leads to Vernon Springs, while the Prairie Farmer Trail follows the former rail line and includes Ridgeway and Calmar. In winter, a groomed snowmobile trail network connects seven communities with Cresco, adding a seasonal recreational option to your trip.

Architecture and Cultural History

The architectural history can also be compared through two houses. The Cresco Opera House & Theatre was built in 1914; the exterior facade of the Cresco Opera House shows the architectural influence of the Prairie School. The Kellow House is an 1880 residence in the Second Empire style. It retains its original pine floors and walnut staircase. At the Opera House, the architectural distinction relates to the facade; at the Kellow House, it also includes the residential style and preserved interior features.
