Discover Marion

When planning a stay in Marion, different interests may shape your choices: botanical design, history, water-based recreation, or a visit to a market. Mandala Gardens is located in Marion and combines a creative farm with a botanical attraction. Mack's Lake of Egypt Marina independently offers services related to boating and fishing. Goddard Chapel is considered a historic site in southern Illinois. Other specific activities in Marion can be found at the Aquatics Center in Ray Fosse Park and at the Marion Farmers Market. Mack's Lake of Egypt Marina adds to the selection with services related to boating and fishing.

Mandala Gardens: Labyrinth, Farm, and Photography

Mandala Gardens is a family-run creative farm and botanical attraction on seven acres in Marion. One distinctive feature is its stone-and-grass labyrinth, which measures 80 feet in diameter. Agriculture and botanical design shape the site.

There is also a specific distinction when it comes to photography: Mandala Gardens offers a fee schedule for photography that goes beyond private tourist photos. If you are planning a photo shoot, check in advance which rules apply to your plans. Private keepsake photos and a more extensive photo shoot are not the same offering.

Goddard Chapel and History in Southern Illinois

Goddard Chapel is considered a historic site in southern Illinois. Its cornerstone was laid on June 12, 1918. The cornerstone laying places the chapel in the historical timeline of southern Illinois.

A condition for access is specified for visits: visitors must obtain a key and permission from the cemetery superintendent. Arrange access with the administration in advance and ask them to confirm whether this procedure is currently in effect.

Water Activities and an Inclusive Play Area

Ray Fosse Park is home to an Aquatics Center and the Heartland Regional Medical Center Inclusive Playground. The Aquatics Center has a swimming pool, a water slide, and diving boards. There is also a separate baby pool with a mushroom sprinkler fountain. Operations may vary by season, so check current visitor information before making plans.

The play area is universally designed and intended to let children and families play together without physical or social barriers. This distinguishes its stated purpose from the Aquatics Center’s water activities: the play area focuses on playing together, while the pool, slide, and diving boards are among the Aquatics Center’s specific facilities.

Marion Farmers Market: Seasonal Produce and Baked Goods

The Marion Farmers Market offers fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, as well as baked goods. All the fruit and vegetables offered there are grown by farmers from the local community. The market thus combines a seasonal selection with a clearly stated local source for its produce. Market hours may change, so check the current dates before making plans rather than assuming it takes place on a fixed day of the week.

Lake of Egypt and Marina Services

Lake of Egypt in Southern Illinois is a man-made lake covering 2,300 acres. Activities mentioned there include boating, fishing, and recreation on the water. Mack's Lake of Egypt Marina rents pontoon boats and also offers bait, fishing tackle, snacks, and souvenirs. If you are interested in a stay focused on water or fishing, you will find a range of options, from boat rentals to accessories and small purchases.

The marina also offers services for boats, including boat slips, fuel, dockside service, and maintenance and repair. These services are distinct from pontoon boat rentals and the items for sale. If you are planning to rent a boat or use a specific service, confirm availability in advance. This lets you include the offerings in your trip plans without assuming they are currently available.
