As seasonal offerings may change, check what is available during the season before visiting. The summer fair and the Pumpkin Patch’s fall-focused offerings provide different seasonal options for planning a trip.
Museums and History

Exhibits at the Hanna House Museum cover recent history from the 1930s to more recent events. The museum is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., April through October, except on holidays. Check the seasonal schedule before traveling. Pat’s Miss Illinois and Miss Congeniality trophies are also on display.

The Wayne County Courthouse houses a permanent exhibit of more than forty enlarged historical photographs, covering the 19th century through the 1960s. The current courthouse was built in 1891. Fairfield itself was laid out as a town in 1819 on land donated by the Barnhill family. The two dates mark different chapters in the area’s history.
The mural “Love Thou Thy Land” is also part of Fairfield’s historical and cultural heritage. It is located in Freedom Park on Main Street downtown and was created by David and Cheryl Harl. Another historical distinction is the 1860 Republican Caucus of Wayne County, considered the first caucus in the United States to nominate Lincoln for president.
