For a stay in Farmer City, city parks, recurring events and local history preservation offer different points of interest. Two questions are especially helpful when planning: Which park features would you like to include, and should your trip be tied to a particular festival or a museum visit? Dates range from the first weekend in March to the weekend after Memorial Day and the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

City Parks and Camping

South Park is a city park south of town on S. Main St. Its features include a walking trail. South Park is also home to Salt Creek Area 21 Camping, about half a mile south of downtown Farmer City. The campground has 21 primitive campsites on 10 acres; camping is free.

Free camping can be registered by phone at 309-928-3412. Leave your name, phone number and campsite number, and confirm the registration instructions before your trip.

Weedman Park is directly north of the city swimming pool on N. John St. It has a pickleball/tennis court and a basketball court, as well as baseball fields, a playground and a skate park. The walking trail at South Park and the sports, play and skate facilities at Weedman Park offer different options for planning your park visits.

Events Throughout the Year

Farmer City Heritage Days takes place every year on the weekend after Memorial Day. It includes live entertainment, a carnival, a free community meal, arts and crafts, food vendors, a car show, a cornhole tournament, a 5K race or fun run, and free children’s activities. If you’re planning your trip around specific activities, this weekend is an important date to keep in mind.

The Farmer City Christmas Parade takes place every year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving and traditionally travels the full length of Main Street. It began in its current form in 1975 and grew into an event with about 100 participants or entries each year.

The Farmer City Antique Show takes place every year on the first weekend in March at Blue Ridge High School, 411 N. John St., Farmer City. Check the dates for the year in question before planning your trip around the show.

Museum and Local History

The Farmer City Museum is open on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Hours are limited and may change; check before your visit.

The Farmer City Genealogical & Historical Society identifies, marks and preserves historic buildings and sites. It also informs the community about the value and importance of preserving family and local history for future generations. Thus, both caring for historic sites and preserving family and local history are among the city’s areas of focus.
