The Snake River formed the canyon by cutting through ancient basalt lava flows. In Twin Falls, trails along the canyon rim and routes down to the Snake River show how differently you can experience this landscape: along the gorge or with views of the riverbank. Perrine Bridge is a prominent landmark spanning the canyon.

Shoshone Falls and the Best Time of Year

Shoshone Falls is 212 feet high and 900 feet wide. The best time to see the falls is in spring, when the snowpack begins to melt. The measurements and seasonal recommendation help with planning in different ways: the figures describe the scale of the waterfall, while the mention of spring points to a suitable time to visit. If Shoshone Falls is to be a highlight of your stay, you can take this season into account when choosing your travel dates.

Trails by the Lake and along the Canyon Rim

For those interested in trails, the routes differ in length, location, and use. Dierkes Lake Park has a 1.7-mile loop with views of the lake, the canyon, and the Snake River. The loop brings together several landscape features along a single route. Canyon Rim Trail has a different focus: it runs for 7.6 miles as a paved path along the canyon rim and is suitable for hiking, biking, and sightseeing. In a direct comparison of length, this trail is considerably longer than the loop at Dierkes Lake Park. The paved surface and the activities mentioned can also help you assess the two trails for your plans.

Another trail area lies within 680 acres of mostly undeveloped land in Twin Falls. There, trails lead from the canyon wall down to the banks of the Snake River; hiking and mountain biking are possible. Views also include Auger Falls. Compared with the paved Canyon Rim Trail, the focus here is on the largely undeveloped landscape and routes down to the riverbank. You can choose between these options based on whether you want to include a loop with lake and canyon views, a paved trail along the canyon rim, or trails between the canyon wall and riverbank in your plans.

Perrine Bridge and Culture

Perrine Bridge rises 486 feet above the Snake River Canyon. The Twin Falls Visitor Center provides access to canyon-rim trails that lead to the bridge. This makes it easy to include the structure and the trails along the canyon rim in your explorations of the area.

Alongside its scenery and trails, the CSI Fine Arts Center offers a cultural highlight. Since its founding, it has hosted thousands of performing arts events and conferences. This adds a different potential reason to visit to Twin Falls’ nature-focused attractions. If you would like to combine your visit with an event, check the schedule for your travel dates.
