Accommodation in Teton County
When looking for a hotel in Teton County, the scenery, cycling, hiking and local history can shape your stay. The following ideas for places and activities range from routes in Teton Valley to facilities in Victor and Driggs. This can help you consider which themes interest you most during your trip.
Scenery and orientation
Teton Valley lies in eastern Idaho on the western slope of the Teton Mountain Range. From there, you can enjoy views of the Teton Mountain Range to the east and the Big Hole Mountains to the west. These two directions of view give the landscape its distinctive setting: your travel plans can take in both the Teton Mountains and the mountain range to the west.
The Teton Scenic Byway serves as a guide for driving through the region. It begins on Idaho 31 near Swan Valley, heads northeast to Idaho 33 near Victor, and then runs north on Idaho 32 to Idaho 47 near Ashton. Full services are available along the byway in Swan Valley, Victor, Driggs, Tetonia and Ashton. Victor, Driggs and Tetonia are towns in Teton Valley that are easy to explore on foot.
For route planning, Teton Valley Trails and Pathways provides a map of trails and bike routes in Teton County, Idaho. This gives you a regional overview for cycling and hiking, without combining the different routes into a single trail.
Cycling and hiking
The Cedron-Bates Teton Valley Loop is a scenic 24.8-mile bike route. It follows country roads and a shared, off-road path. Victor Bike Park offers a different focus: its trails are designed for a range of skill levels and include jumps, berms and technical features. This means you can choose between a longer route with different types of surfaces and a park with a variety of trail features.
For hikes, distance and scenery also help distinguish the options. The hike to Darby Canyon Wind Cave in Teton Valley is a 6.1-mile round trip through forests and meadows to a large cave with a seasonal waterfall. The route to Alaska Basin via Teton Canyon is a 16.6-mile round trip in Teton Valley; along the way, lakes, wildflowers and views of the Teton Mountains shape the scenery. Both distances are for the round trip. The shorter route leads to a cave and waterfall, while the longer route offers lakes and mountain views.
If you would like to plan a horseback ride instead of a bike route or hike, Linn Canyon Ranch offers bookable trail rides and sunset dinner rides. These activities are available seasonally, so check before your trip whether suitable dates fall during your stay.
Winter activities and climbing
In winter, Sherman Park in Victor has a Nordic course as well as groomed trails for snow biking and walking, which also accommodate cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Because seasonal conditions can vary, it is worth checking conditions before visiting. Kotler Arena in Victor offers a full-size ice rink for hockey and other activities and is managed by the Teton Valley Foundation.
Another activity is available at Teton Rock Gym in Driggs, which offers bouldering, top-rope climbing and lead climbing. Rental equipment, lessons and climbing competitions round out the offerings. You can distinguish these forms of climbing from outdoor activities when choosing what to do; which ones suit your interests depends on what you would like to do during your stay.
History and local places to visit
Exhibits at the Teton Valley Museum cover more than two hundred years of history. The collection includes a local history library with nearly one thousand life and family stories, as well as thousands of digitized photographs. Exhibit topics range from a notorious bandit and an attacking grizzly to a Mountain Man, conflicts between Indigenous peoples and other groups, and the John Colter Stone. Together, these varied topics offer insight into regional history, while the library contains personal life and family stories and photographs.
The Teton Valley Welcome Center features interactive exhibits on local resources, recreation and history, as well as travel-planning information. For a different glimpse of the area, the pub at Grand Teton Brewing in Victor also serves as a tasting room and retail store. Check opening hours before you arrive. When planning, you can decide whether to focus on exhibits and regional history or on a visit to the local brewery.
