Social Circle: History, Culture and Recreation
Accommodation in Social Circle
Social Circle offers a variety of things to do during your stay, including historic walking tours, a museum, theater, events and outdoor recreation. If you’re looking for a hotel in Social Circle, the reason for your trip can help you organize your activities. The options vary depending on whether you’re interested in local history, an event or outdoor activities.
History and Culture
You can take the Historic Social Circle Walking Tours on your own. A free illustrated brochure for a tour of historic homes and sites is available at the Welcome Center. This lets you explore independently while focusing on a specific aspect of local history. The Social Circle Heritage Museum is located in an old, recently renovated mule barn. The walking tour and museum therefore offer different ways to explore Social Circle’s historic homes, sites and buildings.
The Welcome Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Check the hours before your visit if you’d like to pick up the brochure there. The Social Circle Theater stages productions and offers theater roles for all age groups. This means performances and opportunities to participate are two distinct aspects of the theater program.
Events and Time Outdoors
Friendship Park hosts festivals, Christmas tree lightings and larger events such as summer concerts. If you’re traveling to Social Circle for a specific event, check the date in advance. Veterans Park has a walking trail. A visit to this park can therefore be planned differently from a visit centered around an event at Friendship Park: here, the trail is an activity in its own right; there, the event date is the focus.
The Creek Golf Course at Hard Labor offers a challenging layout in a natural setting. Its narrow, tree-lined fairways further define the course. These features give the golf experience a different character from the walking trail or events in the parks. If you’d like to include golf in your travel plans, consider whether the layout, setting and fairways suit your interests.
Walton Public Dove Field covers 200 acres, with scattered agricultural fields, fallow fields and wooded areas. Bow hunting for deer is offered there. If you’re including this activity in your travel plans, check Georgia’s current hunting regulations before hunting.
Tours and Visiting Hours
Fox Vineyards and Winery offers tours. Tours, tastings and sales are generally available Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; on Mondays and Tuesdays, these offerings are available by appointment. Check the hours before you travel, and arrange your visit in advance if you’re coming on a Monday or Tuesday. This lets you plan your visit without confusing the regular hours with the alternative appointment-only arrangement.
The options can be grouped by interest: walking tours, the museum and theater offer cultural experiences; parks and golf provide other activities, while Walton Public Dove Field is associated with bow hunting. You can plan around events and visiting Fox Vineyards and Winery based on the relevant date or time window.
