Discover Woodbine: Trails, Riverside and History
Accommodation in Woodbine
Woodbine combines a historic district with trails along the water and a Nature Trail. Two distinct interests therefore come to the fore when choosing a destination: time outdoors and local history. Parks and the Woodbine Opry add to these perspectives. If you are planning a hotel stay, you can first weigh which focus matters most to you: exercise and observing nature, or architecture, local culture and history.
Riverside and Nature Trails
The Woodbine Riverwalk runs along a scenic wooden boardwalk over the marshland, offering views of the Satilla River. The Woodbine Riverwalk & Rail Trail follows a historic railway corridor that was converted into a wide, paved multi-use trail. This paved trail stretches about 2.9 miles from the waterfront. The Woodbine Nature Trail begins where the Riverwalk leaves the historic railway corridor and enters a more natural setting; it remains connected to the Riverwalk. Both trails are suitable for hiking, jogging and cycling; the Nature Trail also offers opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife observation.
Architecture and Local Development
The Woodbine Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Under Criterion C, it is significant for its good examples of residential and commercial buildings, as well as buildings serving as community landmarks, and for its intact historic street grid and courthouse-square plan. The district also includes historic evidence from two distinct, significant phases of local development. Its special character lies not only in individual buildings: the historic spatial layout is also part of its character. Visitors who enjoy getting to know places through their architecture and urban form will find a different perspective here than on the trails by the water.
Parks with a History of Their Own
Woodbine Theater Park is a historic outdoor park on the site of the former Jackson Theatre. Its stately entrance incorporates bricks from the theater’s original 1940s wall; walking paths, outdoor fitness stations and picnic areas round out the park. The site thus combines a historic trace of the former movie theater with opportunities for walking, outdoor exercise and picnicking.
Woodbine Waterfront Park has a double concrete boat ramp, a floating dock, paved parking and restrooms. It is also the traditional home of the annual Woodbine Crawfish Festival, held on the last weekend of April. If you are planning your trip around the festival, check the specific event dates in advance.
Culture and Research
The Woodbine Opry is located at the corner of 2nd Street and Camden Avenue; its address is 205 Camden Avenue. A Camden County proclamation dated February 4, 2025, recognized the Opry’s 25-year history of bringing residents and visitors together for old-time bluegrass, gospel and classic country music.
The Bryan-Lang Archives was established in 1987 as a place for books, documents, maps, photographs and other records of historical and genealogical value related to Camden County. It is exclusively a research facility. If you are interested in family history or the county’s historical records, this research function offers a distinct focus for planning your trip.
