Discover Pinecrest: Gardens and Parks
Accommodation in Pinecrest
Pinecrest brings together botanical garden culture, historical connections and parks with distinct focuses. When planning your trip, it helps to first decide which themes matter to you: tropical plants, traces of history, paths by the water, or sports and play areas. Pinecrest Gardens is known for its botanical and historical features; other parks have their own focuses.
Botanical Garden and History
The Pinecrest Gardens botanical garden covers 14 acres and is located at the southwest corner of Red Road and Killian Drive. It is home to more than 1,000 varieties of rare and exotic tropical plants and palms. Native tropical hardwoods and cypress trees shape the surroundings. Together, the plant collection and vegetation take center stage.
On October 17, 2011, the National Park Service added the property to the National Register of Historic Places, designating it as historically significant. In the Upper Garden, the paths preserve patterns from Parrot Jungle’s original tilework. These preserved patterns give the garden a tangible historical connection alongside its botanical collection.
The Upper Garden terrace overlooks a lake where resident swans and various wading birds can be found. Birds on the lake thus complement the tropical plant life as another natural feature of the garden.
Pinecrest Gardens offers guided botanical tours on selected Saturdays, covering its history, botanical collections and ecology. Tours are weather-dependent and require advance registration. Check the date if you plan to take one. Free parking is available for visitors to Pinecrest Gardens.
Paths and Parks with Distinct Features
Red Road Linear Park offers a 2.5-mile lighted path for walking and cycling along the Snapper Creek Canal. Along Snapper Creek, there are also opportunities to observe birds, wildlife and aquatic life. The park therefore combines a route for exercise with opportunities to experience nature.
Coral Pine Park includes a 2.9-acre pineland preserve. It also has lighted walking paths, pickleball and tennis courts, and a playground. A nature preserve and dedicated sports and play areas are different offerings within the same park.
The sports parks also differ in size and facilities: Flagler Grove Park covers three acres and is a sports park with lighted artificial-turf fields for lacrosse and soccer. Suniland Park is larger, at ten acres, and has baseball and football fields, batting cages, basketball courts and a playground. Pawcrest Park has a different focus: it is Pinecrest’s only off-leash dog park, with separate areas for large and small dogs. Evelyn Greer Park has a walking and jogging path.
Plan for the Market and Events
The Pinecrest Farmers Market takes place every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pinecrest Gardens; the schedule may change. If you plan to visit the market, check the details in advance. Pinecrest Gardens also presents the 17th annual season of Jazz at Pinecrest Gardens for 2026/2027. Dates and performers may change. The farmers market is described as a Sunday event, while jazz is presented as a seasonal program—a distinction that can help with trip planning.
