Bal Harbour: Beach Path, Art and Shopping
Accommodation in Bal Harbour
Bal Harbour offers several clearly distinct points of interest to consider when planning a stay: the Beach Path, with separate lanes; public art; the Sounds by the Sea music series; and the Bal Harbour Shops. It is important to distinguish the access requirements for each. Access to Bal Harbour Waterfront Park is restricted to registered Bal Harbour residents and their guests; Sounds by the Sea, by contrast, is open to residents and hotel guests. When looking for a hotel in Bal Harbour, you can compare these offerings with your travel plans without confusing event access with the park rules.
Beach Path: Separate Lanes and Art
The Beach Path is one mile long and has separate lanes for bicycles and pedestrians. Sea grapes provide cooling shade along the Beach Path. The path is also home to “Sphinx” by Marc Quinn, featuring the Kate Moss Yoga Pose; art displays may change over time. This means the path combines clearly defined uses for pedestrian and bicycle traffic with a specific connection to art. If you would like to combine exercise and public art during your stay, the Beach Path is a useful point of reference.
Waterfront Park: Check Access
The open-air viewing platform at Bal Harbour Waterfront Park offers views of the Intracoastal Waterway. The park also has a public pier and a kayak launch. Access to the park is restricted to registered Bal Harbour residents and their guests. If you would like to use the pier or launch, take this access restriction into account and check access arrangements before your visit.
Music Series and Art
Bal Harbour hosts the Sounds by the Sea music series throughout the year. It is open to Bal Harbour residents and hotel guests. If the series is important to your trip, check the event dates in advance. Unscripted Bal Harbour is a public art program founded in 2013 to support art in South Florida. Colorful sculptures by Rotraut are located at the Bal Harbour Jetty. The Unscripted Bal Harbour Art Access Card gives residents and guests free access to museums and art institutions in South Florida. The art offerings include both specific works at locations in Bal Harbour and access to institutions in South Florida.
Shopping and Planning Your Day
The Bal Harbour Shops bring together designer boutiques, department stores and restaurants in a lush, tropical garden setting. Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue are the anchor stores. Individual stores may change over time. Shopping is a focus in its own right, alongside the Beach Path, the music series and the art works mentioned above.
Transportation in Bal Harbour
Two differently described services can help you plan how to get around. The Freebee service offers door-to-door transportation to residents and visitors within its service areas. Miami-Dade Transit Route 125 serves Bal Harbour and runs on weekdays and weekends from the MDC North Terminal via 125/119 St to Surfside. In this way, a door-to-door service within its respective service areas differs from a route with specified endpoints that serves Bal Harbour. Check the Route 125 schedule before traveling; for Freebee, check whether the locations in question are within its service areas.
