Quincy brings together historic architecture, art and live performances, as well as a loop through Tanyard Creek Park. Plan your stay around your interests, whether that means architecture, exhibitions, musicals, or outdoor activities.

Historic District and Architectural History

The Historic Quincy Walking Tour app covers 71 stops in Quincy's 36-block Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You can also explore the district on a self-guided tour of preserved homes dating from before the Civil War and around the turn of the century. The Historic District includes 145 structures that serve as visible links to Quincy's past. Check the app's availability before your trip.

A free 20-page Quincy walking tour booklet and map are available at the Quincy Main Street office, 104-A N. Adams Street, and at most businesses in downtown Quincy.

Individual buildings also tell the story of different periods in the city's history. The Quincy Academy building was constructed in the Classical Revival style and served the educational needs of the Quincy community until 1912. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The current brick building of Arnett Chapel AME Church was built in the Gothic Revival style in 1939. Since 1912, the Gadsden County Courthouse has been a landmark on Courthouse Square in the center of Quincy.

Classical Revival architecture takes inspiration from ancient models, while Gothic Revival draws on medieval forms. The Quincy Academy and Arnett Chapel therefore illustrate two distinct architectural styles.

Art, Studio, and Stage

The Gadsden Arts Center & Museum is also located on historic Courthouse Square. Housed in the restored Bell & Bates Hardware Building, dating to around 1912, it presents exhibitions of cultural and historical significance.
