Sunrise offers a range of reasons to visit: culture and events, parks and nature, sports, and shopping. Visitors planning to attend an event will look at different options from guests who want to spend time in parks, on the golf course, or cycling. The places below offer specific points of reference for planning a stay in Sunrise.

Culture and Events

The Sunrise Civic Center houses an art gallery, a theater, an outdoor amphitheater, and large ballrooms. Amerant Bank Arena hosts national entertainment offerings and events. This gives you a choice of different venues; check for specific dates during your travel dates.

Village Art Plaza is a public space in the heart of Original Sunrise, intended to bring together art, culture, and community. Its historical connection is the former Upside-Down House: it attracted 12,000 visitors in its first four days. Since 2012, the city has held an annual Champions-of-Chess tournament. Separate from that are free open chess games, which are listed as taking place on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Multipurpose Center of the Sunrise Athletic Complex. Before traveling, check whether these events are currently taking place.

Parks and Nature

Sawgrass Sanctuary is a 20-acre park and learning center. Welleby Park covers nearly 29 acres and is home to Pawgrass, Sunrise’s first municipal dog park. Welleby is larger than Sawgrass Sanctuary by area; their respective focuses also differ: Sawgrass Sanctuary is also a learning center, while Pawgrass refers to the dog park.

Cypress Preserve Park has a nature trail and a 9-hole disc golf course. Oak Hammock Park has nature trails; it is also home to wood carvings by chainsaw artist Scott McAllister. The park offerings range from nature trails and disc golf to art installations in the park. If you plan your days around your interests, these different features may help you choose.

Sports, Recreation, and Shopping

Sunrise has an extensive and growing network of bike lanes throughout the city. Sunrise Tennis Club has 15 courts. The Bridges at Springtree Golf Club covers 67 acres and is a par-62 executive golf course. The club also has a dining area with 120 seats and a view of the 18th green. Tennis and golf are described using different specific features: the number of tennis courts on the one hand, and the golf course’s area and par on the other.

Mountain bike trails are among the main offerings at Markham Park; camping is also permitted there. Reservations and availability may change, so check the latest information before your trip. The Aquatics Complex at Sunrise Civic Center has a 50-meter pool, but is closed through December 2026 inclusive due to ongoing renovations. Check its status before your visit.

Shopping can also be the purpose of a trip: Sawgrass Mills is one of the largest shopping destinations in the United States. Alongside culture, nature, and sports, Sunrise therefore offers another specific focus for trip planning.
