If you’re looking for a hotel in Callaway, local points of interest can help structure your trip planning. Parks and historical landmarks differ in specific ways: trail surfaces, a pond, waterfront views, historic sites, and a boat ramp. This can help you decide which themes you’d like to focus on during your stay.

Park trails and different interests

Callaway Recreational Complex has a 1-mile clay trail with eight fitness stations. Collinfurst Park has a paved walkway that circles a 0.5-acre pond. Brittany Woods Park has natural hiking trails. The trails therefore differ in surface and surroundings: a clay trail with stations, a paved path around a pond, and natural hiking trails.

Patterson Park adds another option, with picnic tables beneath live oak trees overlooking the water. If, during a park visit, you’d rather focus on a scenic break than on a specific type of trail, this offers a different emphasis from the three trails described. Veterans Park, meanwhile, displays an F15 Eagle fighter jet—a specific point of interest for anyone interested in fighter aircraft.

History at John B. Gore Park

The Ellie Fox Memorial Museum is located in John B. Gore Park. The One Room Schoolhouse in the same park operated from 1911 to 1936. This time span places the schoolhouse’s use within a clearly defined historical period; the museum and schoolhouse thus offer two specific points of interest for visitors interested in Callaway’s history.

The Callaway Historical Society meets monthly on the third Sunday of the month at 2 p.m. at the Community Center at Gore Park. Tours of the One Room Schoolhouse and the museum are conducted after the meetings. If you’d like to plan a tour, use this meeting as a guide and check the date in advance.

Water access and an event

John B. Gore Park also has a specific connection to the water: its boat ramp has two berths and floating docks, and provides access to East Bay via Callaway Bayou. This differs from Patterson Park, where picnic tables and waterfront views are the main draw. Callaway therefore offers both a designated water access point and a place to take a scenic break.

On the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend, the city hosts a free event for children up to and including age 16 at Callaway Recreational Complex. If this event is relevant to your trip planning, check the specific event dates in advance.
