Connections and seasonal options offer a starting point for choosing a stay in Mountain Village. The gondola connects Mountain Village with Telluride and serves commuters and day-trippers as free public transportation. The ride offers 360-degree views of the San Juan Mountains, stretching as far as Utah. Free shuttle buses run every half hour throughout Mountain Village. The services differ in where they operate: the gondola connects the two towns, while the shuttle buses serve Mountain Village. In winter, the Chondola provides access between the Mountain Village Center and the Meadows neighborhood. If you want to plan your trips around the shuttle schedule, check the current timetable before you travel.

Skiing, Biking and Trails

Telluride Ski Resort offers a wide range of terrain for all ability levels and is internationally recognized as a premier destination for skiing and snowboarding. Trail descriptions also differ mainly in route, surface, and elevation change. The approximately three-mile Village Trail descends gently from the St. Sophia gondola terminal, crossing ski slopes and drainage depressions dotted with aspen and spruce trees before reaching Mountain Village Boulevard. The route covers 1,000 vertical feet.

The Boulevard Trail leads to Mountain Village Town Hall Plaza; the section of trail there is paved. Westward, the trail follows a natural surface to Highway 145. The Prospect Trail descends through the ski resort to Mountain Village and is best known as a mountain biking route in Telluride Bike Park. The Boomerang Trail connects the valley floor with Country Club Road in Mountain Village. In the Meadows area, several short out-and-back trails can be linked with other trails in Mountain Village to create longer routes. Mountain bike trails range from beginner to advanced.

These differences can help you interpret the trail descriptions by route: the Village Trail is described by its approximate length and elevation change, while the Boulevard Trail has sections with different surfaces. For the other trails, the focus is mainly on their connection points or location. For the Prospect Trail, mountain biking is the primary activity noted.

More Activities

The free Double Cabin Disc Golf Course is an 18-hole par-3 course. Telluride Canopy Adventure includes five ziplines, two suspension bridges, and two rappelling stations. The experience takes you up to 140 feet above the ground and offers views of the surrounding San Juan Mountains. If you’re interested in golf, note the access restriction: the semi-private Telluride Golf Club is open to members, their guests, and guests of The Peaks Resort & Spa.

Art, Stories and Market Days

Gaiascope is a nighttime public art experience featuring kaleidoscopic sculptures that incorporate light, reflections, and video. Public art displays may change. Another way to discover art and stories around town is the Mountain Village StoryWalk. It runs along the Boulevard Trail from Market Plaza to the Village Center and ends at Reflection Plaza. Each month, it features a new story in English and Spanish produced by the Wilkinson Public Library; audio versions are available through QR codes at the stations.

The Cabins consists of 25 repurposed gondola cabins distributed across various plazas in Mountain Village. They serve both as art installations and as private dining spaces. In 2026, Market on the Plaza took place every Wednesday from June 10 to September 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Heritage Plaza in the center of town. It offered local produce and original handmade crafts. If you’re planning to visit a market in a later season, check the dates for that year.

Telluride and Mountain Village visitor centers offer general visitor information, lodging and activity reservations, maps, and activity brochures. You can find information about activities and planning your stay in one place.
