Eagle offers several different ways to shape a stay: the Eagle River in the town center, trails in and around town, and Downtown Eagle, with historic buildings and information panels. If you’re looking for a hotel in Eagle, you can first consider whether river activities, outdoor recreation, or local history will define your stay. These interests lead to different sides of the town and give your trip planning a clear direction.

On the Eagle River: Seasonal Activities

The Eagle River runs through the center of Eagle. Seasonal activities on the river include fly fishing, whitewater rafting, whitewater surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and tubing. Which activities are possible depends on water levels and the time of year. If you want a particular river activity to shape your stay, check conditions before your visit. The Eagle River is also one of the few remaining free-flowing rivers in the western United States that are not regulated by dams.

Trails, Open Spaces, and Views

The trail network includes paved paths through town as well as unpaved trails that connect to the regional trail system. Eagle Pool & Ice Rink provides access to several popular trailheads in town; the Eco Eagle Valley Bike Trail also passes through Downtown Eagle. The open-space program protects natural open spaces and wildlife habitats. Eagle owns and manages more than 1,300 acres of open-space land.

The Eagle Ranch Golf Course Nordic and Snowshoe area offers sweeping views across Brush Creek Valley. Near Eagle, hikers can explore the Hardscrabble area on trails with varying difficulty levels. Mountain bikers can ride nearby singletrack trails in the Eastern Recreation Management Zone.

Park, Swimming, and Ice Sports

Eagle Town Park offers yoga on the lawn, a family-friendly playground, shaded picnic areas, and summer concerts; event dates may vary. The outdoor pool at Eagle Pool & Ice Rink has step-free access, two water slides, a lazy river, and a separate six-lane lap pool. In winter, the NHL-size ice rink is home to the Vail Mountaineers Hockey Club and local high school hockey teams. The seasonal offerings differ: the outdoor pool features water attractions, while the ice rink hosts hockey teams in winter.

Downtown and Local Culture

Downtown Eagle includes many of the oldest buildings in the Eagle River Valley; some date back to the late 19th century. The Old Town Hall in Downtown Eagle was built in 1903. Downtown also has numerous historic information panels from the Eagle County Historical Society. EagleARTS offers a different cultural perspective: the creative center showcases local talent and regional stories. The history of Eagle Flight Days dates back to 1922.
