Broomfield: Discover History and Trails
Accommodation in Broomfield
Broomfield’s character comes through in its historic buildings, open spaces and trails. The Broomfield Depot Museum represents the area’s cultural, economic and social heritage. Public art, trails and sports facilities also shape the options for your stay. You can prioritize culture, walking, cycling or swimming in different ways and choose a hotel to suit your personal itinerary.
Historic Homes and Public Art
The Brunner Farmhouse is a historic landmark dating to 1908 and associated with one of Broomfield’s earliest families. It is located in Field Open Space, which also features public art installations and is among Broomfield’s oldest open space areas. The Art in Public Places program uses public art to reflect community spirit and enrich conversations in public spaces.
The Crawford Honey House also has a story of its own: Together with the Broomfield Depot, it is one of the two oldest surviving buildings in Broomfield. The Crawford family built the house to process honey from their apiary. In 2022, it was converted into an exhibition and event space. The year 1908 is central to the Brunner Farmhouse; the Honey House’s historical significance is shaped by its later conversion.
The Broomfield Veterans Museum covers conflicts from the Civil War onward and the history of members of all branches of the U.S. military. Informal presentations on military conflicts, branches of service or events take place on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. Check the current schedule before visiting.
Trails, Views and Open Spaces
Broomfield County Commons has a loop trail through a 237-acre area, mostly on a soft surface. A self-guided art walk adds to the trail options. You can also identify birds from a fishing pier at Tom Frost Reservoir. The same park therefore offers a loop trail, an art walk and a place for birdwatching.
The Lake Link Trail runs about 11 miles from Lac Amora Open Space to McKay Lake and is mostly on a soft surface. Several trail sections at Lac Amora and Ridgeview also offer views of the Front Range. The Broomfield Trail is another landmark: Existing scenic sections run through Interlocken; in the future, the trail is expected to extend nearly 20 miles through the community. This length describes the planned overall trail, not the route that already exists.
Dogs are allowed on Broomfield’s trails if kept on a leash; the trails are also open to cyclists and pedestrians. Check the local rules in effect for each area before your outing. Many trails are accessible under ADA guidelines, but some sections do not meet the requirements for slope and trail width. If accessibility is important to your plans, check the current ADA trail map for the relevant section.
Cycling and swimming are also among the possible activities. The Broomfield Bike Park at McKay Lake is a four-acre mountain bike park with a natural surface. Anthem Community Park has a paved pump track and dirt jumps for riders of all ages and skill levels. Bay Aquatic Park has two body slides, a leisure pool with racing slides, and a separate toddler pool with slides and a splash pad. Because renovations can change the facilities, check the latest information about Bay Aquatic Park before visiting. Broomfield Community Center offers indoor pools for lap and family swimming year-round.
Broomfield also has three golf courses, as well as extensive community open spaces and trails. Plaster Reservoir provides wildlife habitat and public trail corridors. The combination of golf, trails, water and cultural activities offers different ways to spend your time without having to focus your stay on just one activity.
Plan Your Arrival and Hotel Location
US 36 connects Broomfield along the highway between Denver and Boulder; a multi-use trail runs parallel to it. US36 / Broomfield Station is a park-and-ride lot with 940 spaces, served by nine bus routes and one FlexRide route. Since transit services and parking rules can change, check the latest information before traveling. When choosing a hotel, you can first decide which experiences matter to your stay and which modes of transport you plan to use.
