If you’re looking for a hotel in Manteca, the reason for your trip can help with planning: the city brings together local history, recurring events, and a range of recreational activities. You can weigh up music events, golf, cycling, and other activities. If your trip is focused on a particular event, check the specific dates in advance; for other interests, the activities described offer their own points of reference.

History and Events

A local story explains the name Manteca: “Monteca” was initially proposed. But when the railroad printed its first tickets, they read “Manteca”—and that’s how the city got its name. Another historical landmark can be found at the Manteca Museum. It houses Manteca’s first brand-new fire engine: a 1927 La-France fire truck, number 876.

For music and outdoor entertainment, Music on Maple is a recurring event. It takes place on Maple Avenue on the third Thursday of every month from May through October. The program includes live music and family-oriented entertainment. Its regular schedule differs from events that are only described as taking place annually; check the specific dates for your trip.

Annual events include Park-A-Palooza and Trunk or Treat. Park-A-Palooza is a music festival at Woodward Park. It features games, a Kids Zone, food trucks, and vendor booths. Trunk or Treat is hosted by Manteca Recreation on Yosemite Avenue. Trick-or-treating takes place at vehicles, booths, and storefronts of downtown businesses. The two events therefore offer different formats; plan around the specific event and its confirmed dates.

Golf and Other Recreational Activities

The public Manteca Park Golf Course is a challenging, walkable 18-hole course converted from a nine-hole course. The practice facilities include a driving range and three putting greens; lessons are also available. This lets you choose between playing a round, practicing on your own, and taking lessons, depending on your interest in golf.

Aquatics programs are also part of the city’s recreational offerings. They are available in spring, summer, and fall for participants of all ages and skill levels. The Manteca Community Garden offers a different way to get involved in gardening, with gardening classes as well as group planting and harvesting. These offerings differ both in subject and in their connection to the seasons.

BLD Manteca features six replica playing fields named Yankee, Tiger, Fenway, Polo, Angel, and Wrigley. BMX enthusiasts can visit the Spreckels Park BMX Race Track, which offers year-round recreational cycling and competitive racing on a 1,200-foot track for participants of all ages. These are two distinct offerings: replica playing fields on the one hand, and cycling and racing on the other.

The central bike path in the citywide cycling system is also useful for getting around by bike. It is 3.4 miles long and runs from Lathrop Road on Manteca’s northern city limits to Spreckels Road on its southern city limits. Its stated length and two endpoints offer concrete guidance for route planning. The bike path and the BMX race track are separate offerings, each with its own details: a path in the citywide system and a designated track for recreational and competitive cycling.
