Solana Beach offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: beach activities, a Sunday market, art and recurring events. These topics address different planning questions: at the beaches, the activities you want to enjoy matter; for the market, its Sunday hours; and for the museum and Fiesta del Sol, the relevant dates.

Beaches, Nature and Activities

Tide Beach Park is known for its large reef table tops and the tide pools along the park’s northern boundary. If you want to plan your beach visit around natural features rather than just sports, the reef and tide pools offer specific points of interest.

At Tide Beach Park, you can surf, fish from the shore, snorkel, scuba dive, swim, bodyboard, jog and walk. Fletcher Cove offers surfing, shore fishing, swimming, bodyboarding, jogging and walking. These activities are also available at Del Mar Shores, along with snorkeling and picnicking. Tide Beach Park’s natural features add another dimension to comparing activities: in addition to the beach activities available at multiple locations, the reef and tide pools may also help you decide what to focus on.

Getting Your Bearings at the Train Station

Fletcher Cove is a few hundred yards from Solana Beach train station, which is served by Amtrak and The Coaster rail lines.

Market and Event Dates

The Cedros Avenue Farmers' Market takes place every Sunday from 12:00 to 16:00 and offers flowers, produce, fresh bread and a French patisserie. Its regular Sunday hours make the market an easy-to-plan activity if you want to add a market visit to your stay.

Fiesta del Sol is an annual event in Solana Beach. The program includes live music, an arts and crafts market, activities for children, an international food court, a beer and wine garden, and local food. Its schedule follows a different pattern from the Sunday market: check the specific dates to see if they fit your trip.

Art, Museum and Trails

Pinion is a 20-foot-tall kinetic stainless-steel sculpture in the City of Solana Beach’s permanent art collection. In kinetic art, movement is part of the design; the term describes a design feature.

The Solana Beach Heritage Museum is open on the first and third Saturdays of every month from 13:00 to 16:00; visits are also available by appointment. Before planning, check whether one of these Saturdays fits your trip, or arrange a visit.

The Solana Striders are a monthly walking club whose outings follow the scenic trails of Solana Beach. The Coastal Rail Trail is maintained for pedestrians and cyclists; you can check current trail conditions before your visit.
