Calico Ghost Town Regional Park is located at 36600 Ghost Town Road, Yermo, CA 92398. Calico Ghost Town itself lies halfway between Barstow and Yermo. If you choose Yermo as your overnight destination, you can use Calico as a nearby reference point when planning your trip.

Calico’s history and appearance

Calico was abandoned in the mid-1890s after silver lost value. Walter Knott bought Calico in the 1950s and restored its architecture to reflect the appearance of the 1880s, with five original buildings as exceptions. Two time references are important for understanding its history: the 1880s describe the intended architectural impression, while the purchase and restoration took place in the 1950s. The exception of the five original buildings also shows that the restoration did not include every building. Calico’s history thus connects the town’s abandonment with the later restoration of an earlier appearance.

Calico Odessa Railroad

The Calico Odessa Railroad takes passengers on an approximately eight-minute ride around a hill to historic sites and mining equipment. Historical information is provided along the way. The railroad was established in Calico in 1958 and has operated regularly ever since; service may be suspended due to weather or technical issues. So check before your visit to see whether the ride is running on your chosen day. The approximate duration refers to the ride itself and helps with planning; it is not the duration of an entire visit to Calico.

Mountain biking trails and rental cabins

The mountain biking trails in Calico range from beginner routes to options for all skill levels. Together with the railroad, they offer a comparison across two different criteria: the railroad can be assessed by its approximately eight-minute duration, while the cycling trails can be assessed by their range of skill levels. This lets you consider the options according to the kind of information that matters to you when planning.

Calico also has ten rental cabins. Each sleeps four and is heated and air-conditioned; bed linen is not provided. Keep this in mind when planning and check availability for your dates in advance.

Another regional reference: San Bernardino

The wider destination of San Bernardino is also home to Wildwood Canyon State Park. The 855-acre park has welcomed day visitors since 2003. On December 17, 2025, it was formally classified and named Wildwood Canyon State Park. The two dates refer to different things: day visits since 2003 and the formal classification and naming in 2025. The park adds another point of reference within the wider destination of San Bernardino to the information about Yermo and Calico.
