Kings Beach on Lake Tahoe: Shoreline, Water Sports and Golf
Accommodation in Kings Beach
Kings Beach is on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Kings Beach State Recreation Area offers opportunities for water sports; North Tahoe Beach in Kings Beach has 540 feet of public shoreline. If you’re looking for a hotel in Kings Beach, you can plan your trip around whether water sports, golf or the town’s trails are your priority.
Shoreline and water sports
At Kings Beach State Recreation Area, you can fish, windsurf and surf. Kayaks are available to rent there during the warmer months. North Tahoe Watersports offers personal watercraft at the Recreation Area. Kayak rentals are seasonal, so plan this activity for the warmer months. The Kings Beach boat launch at the end of Raccoon Street is authorized for clean, dry, non-motorized watercraft only. If you want to use the launch, your watercraft must meet these conditions. Choosing an activity and complying with the launch rules are separate planning considerations; take both into account if your plans include both.
Secline Beach in Kings Beach is in a wooded, elevated area and has shaded picnic tables and barbecue pits. This makes it possible to plan an outdoor break alongside water sports activities.
Getting around and finding your way in town
Kings Beach is served by Tahoe and Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART). The free public transit system connects the town with destinations including Tahoe City, Crystal Bay, Truckee and Northstar. Check routes and schedules before your trip. TART Connect offers on-demand, curb-to-curb service within its Kings Beach service zone. Service zones and operating hours are seasonal; check those details before you travel, too. The two services address different transportation needs: TART connects Kings Beach with the destinations listed above, while TART Connect operates on demand within its service zone. When planning, first consider whether you need a connection to one of those destinations or whether TART Connect’s service is relevant to your stay.
Among other goals, the North Lake Tahoe Parking Management Program aims to ensure turnover in the Kings Beach Commercial Core parking spaces for businesses. Since parking policies can change, check the current rules if you plan to park there.
Golf and seasonal events
Old Brockway Golf Course offers more than 3,400 yards of golf and includes two par-5 holes. The more than 3,400 yards describes the course length; the two par-5 holes refer to individual holes. If you’re including golf in your trip, these details offer different points of reference when choosing a course. In 1935, Old Brockway Golf Course hosted Bing Crosby’s first “Crosby” golf tournament.
For summer 2026, the “Music on the Beach” summer concert series was scheduled every Friday from late June through August at Kings Beach State Recreation Area. For later seasons, check the dates and whether the series will continue. The timing of kayak rentals and concerts differs: kayak rentals are generally available during the warmer months, while Music on the Beach was scheduled for a specific period and weekly schedule in 2026.
