Discover Philo
Accommodation in Philo
In Philo, tasting rooms and wineries meet a landscape of vineyards and redwoods. Nearby, Hendy Woods State Park adds its redwood forests and trails. This gives you different options when planning your trip: discover wines and olive oil, spend time outdoors, or explore the area's producers and gardens.
Wine Tastings and Special Places
Long Meadow Ranch offers a seated tasting of four wines and an organic olive oil tasting in its Philo tasting room. If you plan to visit for a wine tasting, check its current availability before your visit. Wentworth Vineyards invites visitors to discover its wines at the tasting room at The Madrones. Operating days and arrangements may change; the winery recommends reservations, so planning ahead is advisable.
The courtyard at The Madrones also offers a different way to spend time there: guests can play bocce or enjoy a bottle of wine near the rose garden. At Greenwood Ridge, the winery's history comes together with distinctive architecture. It is one of the oldest wineries in the Philo area; Aaron G. Green designed the octagonal tasting room. Green was the father of founder Allan Green, as well as a longtime employee and architect for Frank Lloyd Wright. If you plan to visit Greenwood Ridge, check its opening hours beforehand.
Greenwood Ridge offers its customers free fast charging for Leafs, Teslas, and Kias, as well as a dedicated Tesla charger. Check current availability before relying on it. The service is therefore tied to a customer visit and is not described as a general public charging station.
Cider, Food, and Farm Visits
At Gowan’s Cider, visitors can enjoy cider in the Cider Garden, among century-old apple trees. This is a different emphasis from wine tastings: here, the drink and the orchard go hand in hand. A few miles north of Philo, the Apple Farm offers groups of eight to twelve people a shared lunch or dinner on Wednesdays. Guests can then stay on the farm and explore it. The visit combines a shared meal with time on the farm.
Vineyards and Redwoods
The winery surroundings show different sides of Anderson Valley. Goldeneye Winery's estate is surrounded by rolling hills, redwood forests, and vineyards. Brashley Vineyards is located in Philo, in the heart of Anderson Valley, and is also surrounded by redwood trees. Comparing these descriptions gives you a concrete sense, when planning your trip, of how winegrowing and forest landscapes coexist in the area.
Near Philo, Hendy Woods State Park protects two groves of towering redwood trees. The park has five miles of trails through a fern-filled forest. In the meadow's day-use area, the picnic tables, barbecue grills, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Confirm the current availability of these facilities with California State Parks.
More Experiences in Anderson Valley
Anderson Valley also has tasting and visiting opportunities with their own conditions. Domaine Anderson offers guided tasting flights focused on notable, organically farmed vineyards in the valley. At Navarro Vineyards, tours for small groups can be arranged with advance notice; check with the winery for current availability. In summer, picnic tables are also available on the tasting room terrace and in the adjacent vineyard beneath a grape arbor. These tables are a seasonal offering; confirm their availability before your trip.
