If you’re looking for a hotel in Oakhurst, the focus of your trip can help you narrow down your choice of activities. Oakhurst combines historical exhibits with galleries, live theater, parks and recreational activities. Each place offers a different emphasis: Fresno Flats takes you back to the late 19th century, while the galleries, stage and park each cover their own themes.

Historic Sites and Regional Landscapes

Fresno Flats Historic Village and Park depicts life in the late 19th-century California “Wild West.” The site includes several pioneer homes and one-room schoolhouses, jails, a blacksmith shop and a print shop. There is also an exhibit of wagons and a section of the historic flume. Fresno Flats also hosts a monthly arts and crafts market.

Another historic landscape is the Fresno River Recreation Area in Madera County, just north of Oakhurst. The area lies in the historic Grub Gulch Mining District and includes a section of the historic Sugarpine-Madera Flume. Visitors can enjoy water play, nature watching and gold panning with a permit. The region therefore brings together a historical depiction of pioneer life and an area connected to mining history, along with a range of outdoor activities.

Art, Tastings and Theater

Oakhurst Spirits offers tastings of its own-brand whisky, rum, vodka, gin, agave, lavender vodka and bourbon. The Gallery at Oakhurst Spirits in Oakhurst displays works by resident artist Gina Mims as well as guest artists. This venue combines tastings with a gallery featuring local and invited artists.

The Yosemite Gateway Art Center has four galleries featuring painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, glasswork, jewelry, folk art and antiques. It is also the headquarters of Sierra Art Trails. By comparison, the Gallery at Oakhurst Spirits features a named resident artist alongside guest artists, while the Art Center showcases a broad range of art forms and antiques.

Golden Chain Theatre in Oakhurst has been a live theater venue at the southern gateway to Yosemite for more than 54 years. Each season, it presents a wide range of productions, including musicals, ensemble dramas and melodramas. Its seasonal program therefore extends beyond a single type of theater.

Recreational Activities and Park Trails

Yosemite Axe Throwing in Oakhurst teaches guests how to throw axes and offers axe-throwing games. Yosemite Cinema screens family-friendly classics and new releases. The two recreational activities are clearly different: the cinema focuses on films, while axe throwing is about learning and playing.

The Oakhurst Fall Festival is an annual celebration in Oakhurst. The 2026 edition described here lasts three days and includes carnival rides and live music; the program may vary from year to year. So if you’d like to include the festival in your travel plans, check the details for the relevant edition.

Oakhurst Community Park is open for recreational use without prior registration. It is open daily year-round from sunrise to sunset, unless different hours are announced for a special event. The park includes a playground and a trail system through River Parkway. If special event hours are announced, check the posted times before your visit.

The Oakhurst River Parkway trails begin at Oakhurst Park & Ride. An information kiosk there offers free visitor guides, brochures and weekly flyers about local events. The Oakhurst Visitor Center is the information center for the southern gateway to Yosemite National Park via Highway 41. As its hours may change with park conditions, check for current updates before your visit.
