Santa Clarita: Bike Park, Trails and History
Accommodation in Santa Clarita
When planning a stay in Santa Clarita, you can choose from a range of interests: cycling on designated routes, trails for various recreational activities, aquatic attractions, and places with historical significance. The following destinations offer specific ideas to help you plan your time in the area around your interests.
Cycling and Trails
The Bike Park of Santa Clarita is free and open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset. Its seven acres offer opportunities for BMX and mountain biking, as well as several singletrack trails with easy to moderate difficulty levels. More than 800 yards of pump track and BMX track include step-ups, step-downs, rollers, and tabletop jumps. Conditions may change after weather events; check for relevant notices before planning your visit.
Beyond the Bike Park, Santa Clarita’s trail network includes about 80 miles of trails and 20 miles of paseos. They serve both commuting and recreational activities such as walking, horseback riding, jogging, and skating. The regional River Trail forms the backbone of the network. Connected trails provide access to parks, entertainment, shopping, educational institutions, and employment centers. This means your day’s plans can include both dedicated cycling routes and a larger trail network with a range of uses.
Water and Other Activities
The Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, presented by Kaiser Permanente, has three pools: a 50-meter competition pool with a competition timing system, a 25-meter diving pool, and an activity pool with water-play features and a 160-foot water slide. Seasonal schedules may change, so check the schedule for your visit in advance.
Santa Clarita is also home to Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor. Park operations and attractions may change, so check the latest information about the parks when planning a visit.
History, Architecture and Tours
At the William S. Hart Museum, you can take a guided tour of the house and a self-guided tour of the park. Both tour formats explore William S. Hart and Hollywood in the 1920s. The historic William S. Hart Museum Ranch House dates from 1910 and documents life at Hart’s Horseshoe Ranch as well as Hart’s film career. The Ranch House is open for self-guided visits.
Reach Hart’s Mansion from the lower parking lot via a 1/4-mile nature trail. The property offers views and features Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. The Iron Horse Trail is a four-mile equestrian and hiking trail. Its route includes a historic railroad trestle bridge dating from 1898; the trail also connects to the South Fork Trail. On an outing, you can therefore choose between architectural sights and a trail featuring a historic structure.
At Tesoro Adobe Historic Park in Valencia, California, visitors can explore a preserved adobe ranch house, stables, and outbuildings. The park also offers scenic views. For another historical visit, the Saugus Train Station Museum is located at the Santa Clarita History Center. It is open Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment. If you plan to visit outside those Saturday hours, arrange it in advance.
In Old Town Newhall, you can use the walking tour app to discover public art and filming locations. It adds another way to explore art and film locations in town alongside visits to museums and parks.
