La Mirada
Accommodation in La Mirada
La Mirada combines spacious parkland with opportunities for swimming, golf, theater and history. When choosing a hotel, it may therefore help to first organize your travel interests: Would you like to spend time outdoors, see a performance or plan a range of recreational activities? The city’s public facilities network includes eight parks, four sports facilities, a gymnasium, an Aquatics Center and a performing arts theater.
Parks and outdoor activities
La Mirada has a total of 220 acres of parkland, suitable for walking and picnicking. La Mirada Community Regional Park is a 76-acre, extensively landscaped park with rolling hills and lush tree cover. Several disc golf courses offer another way to spend time in the park. The range of parks offers a choice of both quiet activities, such as a walk or picnic, and a specific sporting goal.
Creek Park offers a different scale: It stretches across 26 acres along the La Mirada flood control channel. La Mirada Park in La Mirada is designated for fishing. These locations add a variety of reasons to spend time outdoors to the larger park areas; when planning, it is worth choosing a specific park according to the activity you have in mind.
Swimming and water attractions
Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center includes a 50-meter competition pool, a 25-yard pool for recreation and swimming lessons, and a spa. Swimming lessons for all ages and skill levels are offered year-round. Since lesson schedules may change, check the dates if a lesson is important to your travel plans.
The center also includes Buccaneer Bay, a family-oriented water park. Attractions include a lazy river, three water slides with catch pools, a six-lane mat racer and two body slides. There is also an interactive children’s play area, a zero-depth entry and two splash areas. The park operates seasonally, so check visiting dates in advance. This helps distinguish a planned visit to the water park from the swimming lessons offered year-round.
Golf and theater program
The public La Mirada Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course. Its practice facilities include two putting greens, a chipping green and a two-tier, night-lit driving range with 50 hitting bays. Of these, 25 are covered and 13 are on natural grass. Whether you want to focus more on playing a round of golf or on targeted practice, the information covers both ways to enjoy golf.
La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts presents award-winning plays and musicals in its McCoy Rigby Entertainment main series. The Programs for Young Audiences series brings a diverse selection of national and international touring productions for children and families ages five and up to each season. Since current schedules may change, check the dates for a specific performance before your visit.
Historic buildings and tours
The Historic Neff Estate comprises three historic buildings: Neff Home, George House and The Neff Barn. Free tours are offered on the third Saturday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m.; check the date for your preferred visit before you go.
The 11-room Neff Home was built in 1894 by architect Frederick Roehrig. The home’s described features include a Spanish-style roof with red tiles and a shingle exterior. Together with the estate’s two other buildings, the home gives a visit a clear historical focus. Tour dates and the seasonal water park offering can therefore be included in travel plans as separate, date-dependent activities.
