Cerritos: Art, Culture and Recreation
Accommodation in Cerritos
Public art, local history, performing arts programs and outdoor activities reveal different sides of Cerritos. If you’re planning a stay, consider which of them interest you most. The sculpture garden and library offer different ways to experience art and history; Play Island, a jogging trail, skate park and golf represent other recreational options.
Art and Local History
The Cerritos Sculpture Garden combines art with a variety of outdoor spaces. Alongside intimate areas, there are expansive open spaces where visitors can experience art and nature and find quiet contemplation. The garden was dedicated to the community in 2006 as a gift for its 50th anniversary. It is currently the only place with a complete set of “The Elements.” The four sculptures stand in a reflecting pool, with a fountain at the center of the main plaza. Since art displays can change, it’s a good idea to check the latest information before visiting.
The Cerritos Library also brings together exhibits and art. It is considered the world’s first “Experience Library” and features museum-quality exhibits and an extensive art collection. In the Local History Room, you’ll find display cases featuring a range of exhibits and a mural about the community’s development: it shows the transition from the successful agricultural town of Dairy Valley to the ideal suburb of Cerritos. The library thus highlights both art and the community’s history.
Play, Performing Arts and Movement
At Heritage Park, Play Island transports visitors to Boston in 1776. Its features include a covered bridge, a ship and a village with hidden passageways; flowing water features and slides round out the space. A bronze sculpture of Paul Revere also stands in the park. It symbolizes the park’s theme of the American Revolutionary War.
The Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts offers music, dance and theater performances. If you’d like to include the performing arts in your travel plans, these three disciplines give you a concrete sense of the program’s range. This is a different focus from the art in the Sculpture Garden or the local history in the library.
For outdoor exercise, Cerritos Park East has a jogging trail approximately 0.2 miles long that is lit at night. Five laps equal one mile. These figures give you a specific basis for planning your route without requiring you to equate this loop with another running trail.
The skate park at the Cerritos Sports Complex and Skate Park was designed as a safe and challenging place for skateboarders and inline skaters of all skill levels. Cerritos thus offers different forms of exercise side by side: a lap on the jogging trail and a skate park designed for both of the named sports and all skill levels.
Golf in Cerritos
Reservations are required for the Iron-Wood Nine Golf Course. You need to book a tee time or call the Pro Shop. If you want golf to be part of your stay, you can factor this specific requirement directly into your plans.
These places offer different focuses: the sculpture garden and library highlight art and history, while performing arts, jogging, skating and golf each appeal to distinct recreational interests. This can help you assess Cerritos based on which of these activities are relevant to your travel plans.
