Little Rock combines urban culture with river landscapes and several parks. When looking for a hotel, it helps to first consider which places and activities you want to shape your stay: historical insights, art and museums, or routes along the water. The city offers concrete options for a range of interests.

Culture and History in Little Rock

The Historic Arkansas Museum encompasses a historic city block with Little Rock’s oldest building, a homestead from the 1850s, and galleries featuring art and history created in Arkansas. Through the Living-Craft program, visitors can take part in hands-on demonstrations of historic 19th-century crafts and trades. This means that, alongside the galleries, the focus is also on historic working techniques and their practical demonstration.

The William J. Clinton Presidential Library has an exact replica of the Oval Office that visitors can tour. The Commemorative Garden is located on the grounds of the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site. Operating hours updated by the National Park Service on May 15, 2026, list the publicly accessible garden as open daily from 7 a.m. (CST/CDT) until sunset.

At the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, you can choose between docent-led tours and self-guided audio tours. Both formats take you through the building, the outdoor areas and the works on display. The museum is accessible via Little Rock METRO Line 6 at the Commerce Street stop. The Museum of Discovery has a different focus: its interactive galleries explore science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. The Little Rock Zoo is home to nearly 400 animals representing more than 200 species.

The River Market District complements the museums and historic sites with a market hall in the heart of downtown. It features a mix of different vendors. If you’re planning your trip around culture and city history, you can consider these places as distinct areas of focus: historic buildings and crafts, art tours, or interactive gallery topics.

Parks, Trails and Water

Riverfront Park stretches across eleven city blocks along the south bank of the Arkansas River in the heart of downtown. It hosts festivals, concerts and community events, and offers everyday recreational opportunities. This makes it a place that combines public events with park amenities that aren’t limited to special occasions.

The western section of Two Rivers Park, managed by Little Rock, includes about 450 acres of wooded wetlands, trails and natural areas. Possible activities there include walking, cycling, birdwatching, paddling and nature exploration. River Mountain Park provides access to the Little Maumelle River Water Trail. For a different route along the water, Interstate Park offers direct access to the Fourche Creek Urban Water Trail.

Rock Creek Park also offers its own trail setting: its paved and natural-surface trails follow the creek through wooded landscapes and cross bridges and boardwalks. So, when choosing a nature theme, there are several specific features to consider: wetlands and a range of recreational opportunities in western Two Rivers Park, trails along a creek in Rock Creek Park, or access to a named Water Trail from the respective parks.

Choose the Focus for Your Stay

Those with a particular interest in history will find points of interest at the Historic Arkansas Museum, the Central High School National Historic Site and the Presidential Library. Art, tours and audio tours are the focus at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. If you’d like to plan outdoor activities, the parks described offer different landscapes and options, from walking and cycling to birdwatching and paddling. Compare hotels using the criteria that matter for your trip, and choose the focus that best suits your plans.
