Pine Bluff brings together railroad history, local collections, art and science, Delta ecology, and activities at Lake Saracen. Which stop is most important to you can help structure your hotel stay: First decide whether you mainly want to plan for historic sites, exhibitions, or time outdoors. Each of the following places has its own focus.

Railroad History and Local Collections

The Arkansas Railroad Museum is housed in the Union Pacific Railroad Company’s Old Cotton Belt Shops, dating from the 1890s. It is home to Cotton Belt steam locomotive “819,” the last steam locomotive built in Arkansas. The building and locomotive show two different sides of railroad history: the historic site and the vehicle. If you are particularly interested in railroads and technology, the museum offers a specific focus for your stay.

The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Museum is housed in the historic Union Station Depot and staffed by volunteers. It serves as a central repository for historical information, photographs, and other memorabilia related to the history of Pine Bluff and Jefferson County. Here, the focus is on the history of the city and county, while the Arkansas Railroad Museum centers on a specific transportation topic. This distinction can help you choose based on your personal interests when time is limited.

Art, Theater, and Delta Exhibitions

The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas includes three exhibition galleries and the 232-seat Catherine M. Bellamy Theater. The galleries and theater are two clearly defined areas of the center; they complement the museums’ historical focus with a venue whose name highlights art and science. The theater’s capacity gives you a concrete idea of this part of the center.

The UAPB Museum and Cultural Center is located on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. It provides a permanent home for the “Keepers of the Spirit: The L.A. Davis Sr. Historical Collection” and includes exhibitions about life in the Arkansas Delta. This place thus combines a specific historical collection with a broader look at life in the Delta. If you plan to visit, it is best to check visiting arrangements in advance.

Nature and Activities at Lake Saracen

The Governor Mike Huckabee Delta Rivers Nature Center offers information about the Delta’s heritage, wildlife, and ecology, both indoors and outdoors. It therefore has a different focus from the museums and their collections: here, nature and the Delta take center stage. This can guide your choice if you are interested in ecological connections as well as cultural history.

The Saracen Walking Trail runs along the shore of Lake Saracen. Several benches offer places to rest and enjoy the lake views. At Saracen Landing, the All-Inclusive Playground has equipment that enables children of different abilities to play together safely. The playground is therefore a separate destination for playing together, while the lakeside path invites you to walk and linger.

The pavilion complex at Saracen Landing also houses the Farmers Market. If you want to include it in your stay, check the market dates in advance, as they may change. Discover more destinations: White Hall.
