Discover Salome: History and Nature
Accommodation in Salome
Salome offers two themes to consider when planning your trip: local history connected to Dick Wick Hall and activities in the surrounding Tres Alamos Wilderness. If you’re looking for a hotel in Salome, you can first decide which focus matters most for your stay. Signposts and memorials represent the community’s history; the nearby wilderness adds landscapes and outdoor activities to the picture.
Local History and Memorials
A historic signpost stands along US 60 in Salome. It explains how Dick Wick Hall made the community well known. Salome’s motto is “Where she danced.” While the signpost explains Dick Wick Hall’s specific role, the motto captures the cultural history in a concise phrase.
The Salome 9/11 Memorial depicts three firefighters raising the American flag over the rubble at Ground Zero. Its creation was a community effort. The image and the story of its creation are two distinct features of this memorial.
A bronze plaque marks Dick Wick Hall’s grave in the courtyard of the small Hall Cabin in Salome. Many of the stones in the grave monument are ore-bearing rocks contributed by friends from the mining era. Together with the signpost, they point to a different focus: while the signpost explains how Hall made the community well known, the plaque and rocks connect the grave monument to a specific burial site and the mining era.
Dick Wick Hall Days were held every fall in Salome starting in 1940. If you’d like to plan your stay around the event, please check the current dates before your trip.
