Yozgat offers a range of ways to explore nature, architectural heritage, and archaeological sites. The places mentioned are not all in the city center: the museum is there, while Kerkenes and Uşaklı Höyük are in Sorgun District. Basilica Therma is in Sarıkaya District. The Kazankaya Canyon begins in Yozgat and ends in Çorum. So when planning your trip, it is worth first choosing the places you want to shape your stay.

Nature and Activities in the Parks

Yozgat Çamlığı National Park was designated Turkey’s first national park in 1958 and covers 266.9 hectares. The park’s most important natural feature is the Anatolian black pine (Pinus nigra subsp. pallasiana). The national park is also home to the Nature Education Center, which has a library, a herbarium, specimens, and an exhibition hall. There is also a 54-seat conference hall. Both the distinctive vegetation and the center’s facilities are among the defining features of this natural area.

Yozgat Fatih Nature Park has a different focus: its landscapes include valleys, forests, and lakes, and it also offers opportunities for recreation. In suitable areas, visitors can enjoy nature walks and cycling, as well as photo safaris, picnics, and sports. The landscape here therefore goes hand in hand with several specific ways to spend time outdoors.

Architectural Heritage from the Mansion to the Thermal Baths

Yozgat Museum, also known as Nizamoğlu Konağı, is located in the city center. It is housed in a mansion built in 1871. Çapanoğlu Mosque, also known as Büyük Cami and Ulucami, is accessible by road. In Sarıkaya, Basilica Therma is in the Kaplıca neighborhood of Yozgat Province. The structure was built in the 2nd century AD during the Roman period over the thermal spring known as Aquae Sarvenae. Together, these places take you from a 19th-century mansion to a Roman structure built over a thermal spring, and to a mosque with several commonly used names.

Ancient Sites and Their Locations

The ancient city of Kerkenes lies southeast of Yozgat city center, on the northern edge of the Cappadocian Plain and five kilometers west of the village of Şahmuratlı in Sorgun District. Also in Sorgun District, near the village of Taşlık, is Uşaklı Höyük. The site includes a ten-hectare plain and a two-hectare mound. Both locations are in Sorgun, but their respective reference points differ: for Kerkenes, they are the city center and Şahmuratlı; for Uşaklı Höyük, it is the village of Taşlık.

The underground city of Çeşka lies on an elevated hill about three kilometers northeast of Yozgat city center. Three entrances have been identified; the main entrance in the northwest is closed.

The Kazankaya Canyon begins in the village of Kazankaya in Aydıncık District, Yozgat, and ends in the village of İncesu in Çorum. It is about ten kilometers long. Its two endpoints and approximate length help situate the canyon as a destination between two places in different provinces.

Choose a Hotel Location Based on Your Plans

When looking for a hotel in Yozgat, it may help to compare the place names mentioned here directly with the places you plan to visit. If the museum or Çeşka is your main focus, Yozgat city center is an important reference point. Kerkenes and Uşaklı Höyük are located in Sorgun District, while Basilica Therma is in Sarıkaya. For the Kazankaya Canyon, Kazankaya and İncesu are the explicitly named endpoints. This way, your choice of location reflects your actual travel priorities rather than treating every attraction as a destination in the city center.
