Weisslingen is located in the Zurich Oberland and belongs to the Pfäffikon district in the Canton of Zurich. The church’s history, topics explored at the local museum, and excursions on foot or in the snow reveal different sides of the town. Encounters with alpacas are also among the experiences described.

Church and local history

Weisslingen Church is first mentioned in documents dating from the late 12th and early 13th centuries. Between 1500 and 1510, it was extensively renovated or rebuilt. The Gothic wooden ceiling also dates from this period; it was created by Master Peter Kälin from Ulm, who lived in Zug. The ceiling is considered a rare and beautiful monument to medieval craftsmanship. Several historical layers are therefore closely connected: the first documentary mention dates back to the Middle Ages, while the renovation or rebuilding and the wooden ceiling belong to a later construction phase.

On the upper floor of the SprĂĽtzehĂĽĂĽslis, the Weisslingen Local Museum presents local history covering clubs, the fire brigade, Romans and Celts, crafts, healthcare and water pipes. Other topics include the castle, rites of passage, household life, agriculture, offices, school, toys and the military. Special exhibitions are held every year. The wide range of subjects spans everyday life and work, as well as school, club life and earlier periods.

Ponds and the “Winter Magic” route

The smaller artificial Theiliger pond lies between Weisslingen and Theilingen. The “Winter Magic” route starts at the Dorf bus stop in Weisslingen and follows the hiking trail to the edge of the forest. The path then descends alongside an idyllic stream to Theiliger Pond, where the route comes to a beautiful end. Its stages make the route easy to follow: from the bus stop at the start, via the edge of the forest, to the pond.

In summer, it is worth taking a detour on the route to Weisslingen’s Brauiweiher for a refreshing swim. It lies about one kilometre south of the village of Weisslingen. In the 19th century, the pond was artificially created to supply ice to a brewery at the time. Its present-day role as a destination for a summer detour thus sits alongside its origins, which are connected to the former brewery.

Winter experiences and alpacas

The slope at the Dicki Weisslingen ski lift is 200 metres long and suitable for families with children as well as advanced skiers. When there is enough snow, the ski lift holds night skiing once or twice each winter, with music provided by DJ Uese. Snow conditions are a specific requirement for this activity; if you are planning a trip specifically for night skiing, take this dependency into account.

At the Theilingen Alpaca Farm, you can accompany alpacas on a walk through the forest with Bettina Bachofner. The approximately two-hour visit includes a cup of coffee or tea and a small snack. The farm also offers 90-minute yoga sessions among the alpacas in a natural setting. The two activities differ in both duration and focus: the walk combines spending time with the animals and a route through the forest, while the yoga session centres on movement in the alpacas’ natural surroundings.
