Compare hiking routes by distance and time

Loop trail No. 3, “La Forge–Tantérine,” starts in the center of Savigny. The route is 7.8 kilometers long and takes around two to two hours and 15 minutes. One scenic highlight is the view of the Fribourg, Vaud and French Alps.

Loop trail No. 4, “Les Refuges,” covers nine kilometers, follows forest paths and roads, and takes around two hours and 15 minutes to two hours and 30 minutes. Loop trail No. 5, “Borne à l’Ours,” is seven kilometers long; it also follows forest paths and roads. The estimated time is around one hour and 45 minutes to two hours. Another documented and signposted loop trail runs through the Savigny area. It was created for the municipality’s 200th anniversary, opened on April 20, 2026, and is available on SuisseMobile. Eight information boards with QR codes provide access to video clips and explanatory texts. This loop trail combines walking with additional information along the way.

Nature and Local History

The forests of Savigny are open to the public for recreational use. Étang du Grézaley is considered an ecologically important area; the pond and its surroundings support the reproduction and preservation of a significant amphibian population. Thus, the forests’ expressly stated recreational use and the pond’s ecological function are two distinct nature-related themes.

Local history can also be traced through specific dates. The name Savigny first appears in 1228 in the form “Savinie” in the Cartulaire de Lausanne. A decree of the Grand Council of the canton of Vaud legally established Savigny as an independent municipality on May 17, 1823, through the division of the municipality of Lutry. The separation deed between Lutry and Savigny was signed on March 22, 1825. The dates mark two steps: the decree establishing the municipality legally and the subsequent signing of the deed.
