Yvorne between vineyards and cultural heritage
Accommodation in Yvorne
Yvorne: vineyards and a village shaped over time
Yvorne’s vineyards lie on the sunlit slopes of the Vaud Chablais. They are woven into the historic settlement pattern and, in places, bounded by high rubble-stone walls. Terraced plots cover the steep slope; beyond them, farmland and winegrowers’ houses shape the landscape. The rockslide of 1584 destroyed Yvorne. The village was rebuilt a few metres to the southeast and has retained its hamlet-based layout ever since.
Winegrowing and wine estates
The former manor house, Maison Blanche, was built between 1609 and 1611 on the site of an older building. The estate comprises a main house, several outbuildings, and a park. Maison Blanche stands on a hill surrounded by farmland, vineyards, forests, and pastures. Its vineyard covers eight hectares and lies on steep terraces. The soils were enriched with limestone and Alpine sediments by the 1584 rockslide.
At Château Maison Blanche, the wines mature in oak barrels in the estate’s cellars. Tours of the estate and tastings of its crus are available by appointment. Be sure to book ahead. Visits to Domaine Dillet offer insight into the winemaker’s work, winemaking, and the estate’s philosophy; they include a cellar tour followed by a wine tasting.
Hiking trails with a range of route profiles
The A travers le vignoble circular trail loops around Yvorne’s vineyard and offers views of the plain and the Dents-du-Midi. For a longer route, take the Sentier des Vignes: this 30-kilometre trail runs from Yvorne via Aigle, Ollon, Bex, and Lavey to St-Maurice, through the Chablais vineyards. Along the way, 19 totems explain the history of winegrowing. The estimated walking time is nine hours; check the current route before setting off.
The Sentier des Vignes is open year-round and also offers public transport alternatives. Its gentle gradient makes it suitable for everyone. The trail passes wine cellars where winemakers offer wines from the growing region for tasting. Check which cellars are participating before your trip.
The Circuit de Drapel N°1 offers a different time commitment: it is a 7.2-kilometre circular hike through vineyards and forest, leading to higher areas of Yvorne. The stated walking time is two hours and 15 minutes, with 362 metres of ascent and descent each. The trail also offers panoramic views of Aigle. Compared with the 30-kilometre Sentier des Vignes, it is a shorter loop; route details may change if the trail is rerouted.
The Via Francigena N°70 also passes through Yvorne: on the section from Villeneuve to Aigle, the route then continues through the vineyards to Aigle railway station. Check the current trail signs before setting off.
Architecture, art, and nature
A temple in Yvorne dates from 1835 to 1838. The Reformed church on Rue du Collège is listed as a protected monument. Also protected are the Fontaine de la Croisée, dating from 1792, and a fountain dating from 1847 in Les Rennauds. A protected Roman road is recorded at Clos de l’Abbaye. These dates and locations offer concrete points of reference for exploring the area’s architectural heritage.
Yvorne is one of the partner municipalities of AILYOS Art & Nature; the art trail is redesigned every year, and the works and dates vary with each edition. At the exhibition, sculptures are accompanied by texts in French, English, and German, as well as QR codes providing information about the artists and the exhibition as a whole.
Nature projects are also changing the landscape. A former gravel pit has been transformed into an ecologically valuable body of water, home to a rich variety of plants and animal species that live there year-round, seasonally, or during migration. Yvorne Grandeur Nature aims to engage the public through eco-wine tourism and encourage responsible consumption. By the end of 2025, biotopes had been created within the vineyards on 26 percent of the area designated for them.
