La Tzoumaz lies between Martigny and Sion, high above the left bank of the Rhône. The village extends from 1,100 to 1,700 m above sea level; the village centre is at 1,510 m above sea level. There are various themes to consider when planning your visit: winter connections, forest trails, nature activities and cycling. The following details will help you explore the different aspects of the village according to your interests.

Winter: Ski Area and Toboggan Run

La Tzoumaz is connected to the 4 Vallées ski area. In winter, Verbier and La Tzoumaz are connected by two gondolas for pedestrians, as well as by a gondola and ski link. These lift connections are subject to schedules and conditions; check the latest operating information before your trip. Another winter highlight is the Piste de luge de la Tzoumaz: between Savoleyres and La Tzoumaz, the toboggan run has a vertical drop of 711 m. From Verbier, it can be reached by taking bus no. 1 to the Savoleyres stop, followed by the Savoleyres gondola. As the toboggan run is subject to the season and weather, check its availability and the current bus and lift services in advance.

Forest Trails and Nature Activities

The Sentier des Sens is a fun and educational 5.3 km circular trail through the forest of La Tzoumaz. It follows the historic «Bisse de Saxon», a watercourse built by hand around 1850. The trail is accessible to people with reduced mobility and to pushchairs. It also features an interactive exhibition about local wildlife. The Chemin des Bisses offers a different route: it leads from Martigny (Col des Planches) to La Tzoumaz. Conditions may vary seasonally.

The Maison de la Forêt features observation towers on stilts and a botanical garden with medicinal plants; there is also a play and adventure area. These attractions differ from the circular trail and its exhibition: here, the focus is on observation towers, plants and play.

The Fondation Domus site in La Tzoumaz is a social agritourism destination open to the public. The site includes the «Sentier des découvertes» circular trail and a children’s playground next to the Buvette. Opening periods may vary by season; access conditions may also vary depending on the time of year. Take these conditions into account when planning your visit.

Cycling and Other Activities

The La Tzoumaz Bike route is designated for mountain biking and e-biking. It starts in La Tzoumaz at 1,506 m and heads towards Croix de Coeur at 2,173 m. Check the route conditions before setting out. For a shorter activity, there is the 65 m La Tzoumaz pump track. It can be used with a bicycle, scooter, roller skates or skateboard. At Espace nature, you can learn to draw outdoors on the Parcours du Crayon Vert. The options differ in both route format and activity: from the designated bike route to the pump track and outdoor drawing.

Village Layout and Orientation

The settlement of La Tzoumaz is widely dispersed and mostly sparsely populated. It extends across an area of around 4 km² with little woodland. The steep, wooded slopes of Grand Veron form the northern boundary, the mountain stream La Fare the eastern boundary, the Forêt des Etablons the southern boundary and the mountain stream Torrent d’Ecône the western boundary. Together with the elevations given above, these details provide a sense of the village’s overall extent.
