Les Masses is known as a mountain resort with an intimate atmosphere. The Les Masses resort provides access to the 4 Vallées ski area. When planning your trip, it is important to bear in mind that access to the ski area and lift operations are seasonal. Check the current conditions for your travel dates before planning your activities.

Winter sports and trails

The Jardin des Neiges de Léteygeon features a gentle slope and a small ski lift suitable for beginners. This offers another specific winter sports option alongside access to 4 Vallées: a gentle slope and a lift expressly suited to beginners.

The trails also offer a variety of experiences. The Sentier des Bouquetins shares the history and the wildlife and plant life of Val des Dix, and leads to Col des Roux at an altitude of 2,800 metres. As a high-altitude trail, it is subject to seasonal and weather conditions; check the conditions before setting out. The Sentier du Montagn’art, meanwhile, features around forty sculptures from around the world along the route. Check the local trail conditions before your visit. The Sentier Histoire d’eau is dedicated to the workers who built the underground water system leading to Grande Dixence.

Grande Dixence: views and tours

The crest of the Grande Dixence dam offers 360-degree views. It can be reached on foot in about 45 minutes or by cable car; access arrangements are seasonal. Check them before your trip. Seasonal sound-and-light tours are offered inside the dam. If you would like to plan a visit, check the current booking calendar.

The Alpine Line runs for more than 700 metres along the 15-million-tonne dam and is described as the longest zip line in French-speaking Switzerland. As of 20 August 2026, it was closed until further notice due to a recent landslide. Check before your trip whether it is still closed.

Hérémence: village, church and museum

Explore the old village of Hérémence, with its chalets and raccards, their façades browned by the sun. A street-art mural by the artist Jasm One can be seen on Place de la Laiterie. Église Saint-Nicolas d’Hérémence is listed as a historic monument of national importance. Striking openings in the concrete meet wooden façades at the church; if you would like to visit, check access locally.

The Musée multi-sites d’Hérémence is spread across traditional buildings and presents regional traditions. Its collection comprises more than 3,000 objects. One of the museum buildings was erected in 1584 and formerly housed the court of Val d’Hérens. Guided tours of various sites are available by reservation; confirm the reservation terms with Hérémence Tourisme. The forge at the Musée d’Hérémence is open in July and August. Check this seasonal opening information before your visit.

Scenery and food

From the village of Hérémence, you can enjoy an exceptional view of Dent Blanche and the Matterhorn; visibility depends on the weather. The pyramids of Euseigne are protected natural cone-shaped formations topped with stones. The valley’s main road leads directly to them. They formed at the end of the Würm glaciation, around 80,000 to 10,000 years ago.

Hérémence has preserved its culinary traditions and expertise and is part of the Slow Food Suisse label. Culinary experiences are organised throughout the year, including bread-making, cheese tastings, farm visits and meetings with producers; the programme may vary by season. A visit to the Fromagerie d’Hérémence includes a tasting of its products. You can also discover the traditional cheese-making process there, from milk to finished cheese.
