Oberterzen is a village in the political municipality of Quarten in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland. When looking for a hotel, three specific themes stand out here: St. Anna Chapel, a mountain hike via Heusee and Seebenalp, and the SeeJet connection to Flumserberg. You can tailor your stay to the interests that matter to you: cultural history, a walking tour or winter sports. The chapel, hiking route and mountain railway each offer a distinct point of interest.

The Chapel and Local History

The chapel in Oberterzen was built in 1969 and dedicated to Saint Anna. Over time, it was dedicated to Saint Martin, Saint Nicholas, the Bishop of Myra and Saint Anna. The year of construction and the sequence of dedications provide different points of reference: one marks the chapel’s construction, while the other reflects its religious affiliation over the course of its history. This makes it a specific cultural point of interest for travelers interested in local history.

Hiking from Oberterzen

The “Oberterzen–Seebenalp–Tannenboden” hike starts in Oberterzen. It follows fairly steep mountain trails up to Heusee and continues from there to the Berghotel Seebenalp. It then runs via Winkelzahn to Tannenboden. The starting point and the nature of the terrain offer two different ways to understand the route: Oberterzen is the starting point, while the fairly steep climb shapes the way up to Heusee. The continuation via Seebenalp and Winkelzahn adds named stops to this first section. Conditions on mountain trails can vary by season; check them before your hike.

SeeJet and Winter Sports

For winter sports, the SeeJet connection offers a different point of reference. The 8-person gondola travels from Oberterzen to Tannenboden; from Oberterzen, it provides access to the Flumserberg ski area. The area has 65 kilometers of groomed slopes, although grooming and operations are seasonal. Check the timetable for your planned day, as operating hours may vary. In addition, a six-kilometer descent on an ungroomed slope leads from Seebenalp through deep snow to Oberterzen. Whether it can be used depends on snow conditions. The distinction is practical: the 65 kilometers of slopes indicate the size of the ski area, while the descent describes one specific option that depends on snow conditions.

Connections for Planning Your Trip

The middle station of the Unterterzen–Oberterzen–Tannenboden gondola is in the village center. This is a specific point of reference for getting around the village. Together with the hiking route, it offers a comparison: both connections lead to Tannenboden, but the gondola travels there, while the hike from Oberterzen climbs to Heusee before continuing via the Berghotel Seebenalp and Winkelzahn. This lets you decide whether to base your trip planning on the gondola connection or the route of the hike.
