Mols is a village in the municipality of Quarten in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland. The village features lakeside attractions, a described hiking route and historic sites in the town center. You can take these different highlights into account when choosing your destination.

Lakeside, Beach and Play Area

The Walensee play area in Mols is located on the natural shore of Lake Molser. The play oasis includes a heron slide, a seagull swing, a frog seesaw and a water-lily balance path. Large trees provide shade for the lakeside play area. If you are interested in outdoor play facilities, you will find a slide, swing, seesaw and balance path by the lake here.

Mols lido has a small pebble beach. The large playground at the lido is part of the Walensee play area. Mols beach is freely accessible at all times. As this access policy may change, check it before your visit.

Getting Around and Hiking Route

Mols railway station and the Mols boat landing are each about 250 meters west of the beach. Using the beach as a reference point makes it easy to locate the station and landing separately.

The Walenstadt–Raischibe–Mols hike offers a different perspective on Mols. It leads through the forest and offers beautiful views of Walenstadt and Lake Walen. After the turnoff toward Mols, the trail descends steadily to Mols and the shores of Lake Walen. The route described thus combines a stretch through the forest and scenic views with a descent to the lakeshore. For planning your trip, the route is a specific way to explore Mols on a hiking trail.

Church and Local History

An alpine pasture charter records Mols in 1178; the first grazing regulations in Mols date from 1475. The village’s religious history can be traced through several dates: the first chapel was built in 1725. In 1787, Mols became independent of Walenstadt Church and formed its own parish. The first parish church was consecrated on November 11, 1821. The present-day parish church is a defining feature of the town center; Bishop Carl Johann Greith of St. Gallen consecrated it on October 24, 1865. These milestones mark distinct stages—from the early chapel, through the establishment of a separate parish, to the present-day parish church. The alpine pasture charter and grazing regulations represent an earlier period in the village’s history: they date to 1178 and 1475, before the religious milestones beginning in 1725.

The lakeshore, hiking route and local history offer different points of reference when making your choice: by the water, the beach and play area take center stage, while the hike describes a specific route through the forest to the shore. The church dates add a historical perspective to these features of the village.
