Hintergoldingen: Border Trail, Chapel and Goldingertal
Accommodation in Hintergoldingen
Location and village character
Hintergoldingen is a village district in the Goldingertal. You reach it after the village districts of Vorhalden and Vordersagen, following a short, steep climb. Several narrow roads branch off Hintergoldingerstrasse into the side valleys of Juch/Sack, Au/Studenweid and Töbeli. Hintergoldingen was one of the villages in the former political municipality of Goldingen. The village is also on the access road to the Atzmännig sports and leisure centre.
Bruder Klaus Chapel
The construction of the Bruder Klaus Chapel was promoted by Pastor Johann Winiger to make it easier for the farmers of Hintergoldingen, and especially the schoolchildren, to attend church services. The chapel was consecrated in 1953. Today it is used mainly as a wedding chapel; specific arrangements for weddings may vary. Its history thus leads from a local concern about attending church services to its present-day use, which is primarily associated with weddings.
Hiking and the Goldloch
Stage 4 of the Eschenbach Border Trail begins in Hintergoldingen and initially follows a road towards Atzmännig. The hiking stage is rated difficult, is 14.8 kilometres long and includes 800 metres of ascent and 716 metres of descent. The route, difficulty rating and measurements may be updated, so check the details before setting off. These figures describe both the route length and the elevation changes to take into account when planning this stage.
Along the way, the stage passes an information board about the history of the Goldloch at Dägelsberg. At the Goldloch itself, a tunnel and a deep shaft remain, associated with historic attempts to mine gold. This connects the information board along the hiking stage with a place whose surviving traces recall those attempts. If you plan to visit the Goldloch itself, check the local access conditions.
Atzmännig in the Goldingertal
In the upper Goldingertal, Atzmännig is considered a destination for day trips. Summer activities include a chairlift, an amusement park, a toboggan run, a bungee trampoline, the Spatz-Männi adventure trail and a rope park. Operations are seasonal, and the availability of individual facilities may vary. When planning, it is therefore important to distinguish between the summer activities at Atzmännig and the hiking stage described here: the stage begins in Hintergoldingen and initially heads towards Atzmännig, while the leisure facilities mentioned are part of what is offered there.
Cycling and moped routes
The “Gold Trophy unterwegs” cycling and moped tour runs from Atzmännig via Hintergoldingen, Goldingen, Hintermüli and Rüeterswil and back to Atzmännig. The tour includes nine golden game boxes; another nine are spread from Goldingen via Egligen to Neuhaus. The locations of the game boxes may change, so check the route details before setting off.
Another cycling tour is “Die goldige Blumentour” (“The Golden Flower Tour”): it runs from Laupen via Hintergoldingen to Rüeterswil. The two routes can be distinguished by their courses: “Gold Trophy unterwegs” returns to Atzmännig, while the flower tour connects Laupen and Rüeterswil via Hintergoldingen. You can compare the routes using the places listed without treating their different courses as the same.
Getting there and playground
Bus 630 runs from the Eschenbach village centre to the Hintergoldingen (Sonne) stop. Check the current operating times before travelling. This gives you a specific point of reference for getting there by bus; checking the timetable will help you choose a departure that fits your plans.
The Hintergoldingen play meadow is accessible and has a fire pit, a picnic area and a sand play area. It also has two large goals and a barrier on the side facing the road, making it a good place to play football. Facilities may change or be temporarily unavailable, so check the local conditions before a specific visit.
