La Sagne offers a range of options to consider when planning a trip: village history, a regional museum, the Sentier des Statues and activities in different seasons. If you are looking for a hotel in La Sagne, you can first decide whether culture, time outdoors or winter sports will shape your stay. The following places and trails offer practical guidance.

Temple and Musée régional

La Sagne has been documented since the 14th century. The Temple de La Sagne was built in the Gothic style between 1521 and 1526. The choir features a ribbed vault. In 1905, the Neuchâtel State Council designated the Temple a historic monument. Its construction date, architecture and protected status give a visit a clear historical context.

The Musée régional de La Sagne also connects local history with other subjects. It was founded in the 1880s and remains in the attic rooms originally designated for it in the municipal building. The attic rooms contained old wooden and glass display cases. The collections cover archaeology, ethnography, history, fine arts, watchmaking and natural history. Old objects tell the story of the valley, and its fauna is also on display. The ethnographic collection includes, among other things, one-piece chains or headrests from Mozambique, as well as an octopus hook from New Caledonia.

The Musée régional is open on the first Sunday of each month or by request. Guided tours can be arranged by appointment. Check whether a visit is possible before your trip; this will help you plan your museum visit around opening hours and any arranged tour.

Sculpture Trail and Outdoor Activities

The Sentier des Statues features more than 120 works carved from tree stumps by Georges-André Favre over a period of 35 years. Human, plant and animal figures await you among the fir trees. The trail is not only an outdoor route, but also a window onto an artistic project developed over many years. The round trip from the car park takes about two hours. The Sentier des Statues also has a picnic area, firewood, a fireplace for grilling and a shelter.

The Communal de La Sagne is a communal pasture belonging to the municipality and covers 25 km². It is used for cross-country skiing and mountain biking. In autumn, picnickers hold the famous Neuchâtel torrée there, cooking sausages in the embers. The pasture, its sporting uses and this seasonal tradition illustrate different aspects of the same place. Depending on the time of year and your interests, you can decide whether an activity or the autumn tradition is your main focus.

Landscape and Winter Routes

Le Grison is considered the largest known erratic boulder in the high valleys of the Jura at present. It has been protected under a State Council resolution since 24 October 1910. Another scenic spot is La Roche aux Crocs, a rock overlooking the Vallée de La Sagne. La Roche aux Crocs is considered a small, unfenced nature reserve where animals roam freely; chamois, roe deer, foxes and hares are among those found there. The easiest access is via Prés de Suze and La Petite Corbatière.

In winter, the Centre nordique La Sagne offers 27 km of classic cross-country ski trails, 5 km of trails for winter walks and 14 km of snowshoe routes. Grooming and access may depend on seasonal conditions. The Ski-Club La Sagne also grooms a 5 km pedestrian trail between La Sagne and La Corbatière; grooming may also vary seasonally. The different trail lengths and ways of getting around can help you match your planned time outdoors to your winter activity.
