Discover Saulcy: hiking trails, nature and local history
Accommodation in Saulcy
Saulcy is a small village with around 270 residents at the entrance to the Franches-Montagnes. At an elevation of approximately 920 metres, it is set in a natural environment; Saulcy and the nearby hamlet of La Racine are considered places for relaxing or active stays in nature. From Saulcy, you can enjoy views of the sea of fog over the Delémont Valley, which is regularly covered by this phenomenon. The focus for trip planning is therefore on scenery and outdoor activities, complemented by a few clearly defined cultural attractions.
Hiking trails and scenery
Numerous trails maintained by the local beautification association run through Saulcy and its surroundings. Some also cross the territories of the neighbouring municipalities of St-Brais, Lajoux, Rebévelier (BE) and Haute-Sorne. The trail network thus extends beyond the village. Hiking options include circular routes via the Sentier de la Statue, the Combe Monjean, the Sentier de la Louvière, the Combe Tabeillon and La Saigne, as well as a trail to Undervelier via the Maison Blanche.
The circular hike “Saulcy – Sentier de la Statue – Combe Monjean – Saulcy” is 1,870 metres long. Ju-0034 follows the shore of Étang de Bollement and then runs alongside a stream as far as the St-Brais–Saulcy road. This gives you two different points of reference when choosing a route: a loop with a stated distance and a trail that links the shore, stream and road. Étang de Bollement is also part of a nature reserve that extends across St-Brais and Saulcy.
Churches, architectural history and tradition
Saulcy’s church was built in 1820; its current stained-glass windows were installed in 1889. There are 69 years between the church’s construction and the installation of the windows. The Oratoire de la Racine adds its own year of construction and design: built in 1977, the oratory was dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Its roof is shaped like an equilateral triangle, with all three sides of equal length.
Near Saulcy, in the territory of Haute-Sorne, stands the Chapelle de Bonembez. It was built in 1874 during the Kulturkampf and blessed in 1876. The chapel’s anniversary is celebrated every year on 15 August with a Mass followed by a bring-and-share picnic. The nearby chapel thus combines architectural history with a recurring religious occasion.
Museum and regional products
The Temps de RĂŞves Museum is located in Saulcy. It displays a private collection of more than 500 dolls in a setting that changes with the seasons. The Wermeille farm shop offers farm produce, regional products, aperitif platters, fine eaux-de-vie and gift baskets. Alongside nature and cultural experiences, the museum and regional products are among the varied attractions Saulcy offers to help you plan your trip.
