If you’re looking for a hotel in Flims Waldhaus, the trails and leisure activities can help you decide which plans suit your trip. The village combines several different hiking options with leisure activities at the Prau la Selva sports centre. For planning, the starting points, approximate walking times and destinations of the individual trails provide useful guidance.

Hiking between Connbächli, Lake Cauma and the viewpoint

The Connbächli hike starts at the Lake Cauma car park in Flims Waldhaus and runs 3.2 kilometres to Conn; allow about an hour for the walk. The Connbächli stream itself is six kilometres long and has been used since the early Middle Ages to water livestock in Conn. It is still considered part of the cultural heritage of the municipality of Flims. There are five junctions with footpaths along the Connbächli hike; at each one, you can shorten the route.

For an outing to a viewpoint, the Il Spir platform is a good option: a stroller-friendly hiking trail leads there from Flims Waldhaus in around 45 minutes; the platform is accessible year-round. In the surrounding area, it offers a 180-degree view across the “Swiss Grand Canyon.” The information about walking time and accessibility helps you compare this destination with the other routes.

An idyllic trail through the forest is accessible to strollers and wheelchairs. Lake Cauma lies nearby in the heart of the Flims Forest. Swimming is possible in summer, when the water temperature ranges from 17 to 24 °C. A shorter hiking route to Lake Cresta also starts in Flims Waldhaus. The 4-Lakes Hike, by contrast, starts at the Flims Waldhaus playground and returns to Flims Waldhaus via the Felsbach Gorge. The trails mentioned therefore differ in their starting points and destinations; the Connbächli hike also has an approximate duration.

Leisure activities and culinary route

The Flims high ropes course is located at the Prau la Selva sports centre, with courses at heights of two to twelve metres. The skatepark can also be used there in summer. The ice rink offers indoor ice skating whatever the weather; hockey and ice-stock sport, which can be reserved, are also available. The leisure activities therefore include both outdoor pursuits and indoor ice sports.

The Wald & Water culinary trail starts in Flims Waldhaus, combines experiences of the landscape with culinary attractions, and takes you past three establishments. Those who want to combine a hike with food stops will find a different kind of route planning here than on the trails to Lake Cauma, Lake Cresta or Conn.

From April to October, the event hall at the Waldhaus Arena is available for conferences, trade fairs, concerts, product presentations, exhibitions and annual general meetings. This period describes when the hall can be used; specific event dates should be checked separately.

Getting there and historical background

The Prau la Selva sports centre can be reached by post bus from Chur towards Flims-Laax; the stop is called Flims Camping. From Zurich, take the train to Chur, where you can change to the post bus towards Flims-Laax and continue to Flims Waldhaus. Check the timetable before travelling. For the drive, the described route follows the A3 motorway, takes the Reichenau/Flims exit, and continues towards Flims/Disentis.

The village’s history also provides a historical connection: the history of Waldhaus Flims dates back to the “Kur- und Seebadanstalt Waldhaus Flims,” founded in 1869. Alongside hiking trails, lakes and leisure activities, the development of Waldhaus as part of local history is another aspect to consider when planning your trip.
