Digg: Discover the Fortress, Village and Routes
Accommodation in Digg
If you’re looking for hotels in Digg, the area’s local attractions offer practical inspiration for planning your trip: fortifications from the Second World War, the protected village character, and trails towards the Rhine Gorge or Lake Crestasee. This can help you decide whether to focus your stay mainly on culture, a challenging hike or an e-bike tour. The different routes and sights can help you choose how to spend your days in Digg.
Fortress History and Village Character
The Sperre Trin fortress above Trin Digg is open to visitors today. Another military fortification from the Second World War is located at Crap Sogn Barcazi, a rocky promontory with castle ruins between Trin and Trin Mulin; it is also accessible. Guided tours at the Sperre Trin Fortress Museum include the rock fortifications at Crap Sogn Barcazi and Crap Pign, the Porclas Nord, West and Strasse bunkers viewed from outside, and the Fortress Guard Corps (FWK) kitchen. An underground system of 300 steps connects Sperre Trin fortress with a second defensive system in the rock of Crap Pign. For specific visitor arrangements, it is advisable to check the museum’s information before your visit.
The village layout is another point of interest: Trin Digg is designated as a village site worthy of protection in the cantonal structure plan. Old stone houses and their barns are arranged in small groups around the village square under a special building regulation. On a walk through the village, you can therefore take in not only individual buildings, but also their distinctive arrangement.
Hiking Trails with Different Highlights
The challenging Ruinaulta Sut (656.1) hike starts in Trin Digg, goes via Ransun down into the Rhine Gorge and ends at Versam/Safien railway station. The route passes the Islabord viewpoint, with views across the Rhine Gorge, and a suspension bridge from which you can see the Rhine. The tour thus combines a descent into the gorge with a viewpoint and a striking crossing. Access conditions can vary seasonally; check current local conditions before setting out.
The Trin Porclis circular trail offers a different outing: it goes around Bot Fiena towards Trin Digg and then back to Trin Porclis through the old village. This easy walk passes through forests, hedgerows and open fields directly at the foot of Crap Sogn Parcazi. Unlike the Ruinaulta Sut, this route focuses on the varied landscapes and the path through the old village. Route details may change with seasonal conditions.
The Via Son Giachen: Trin-Digg–Falera stage also has a different landscape focus. Shortly after leaving Trin Digg, it crosses Val Pintrun; it then continues through the Flims/Laax landslide area, with views down into the gorge of the Vorderrhein. Check the current route status before planning this stage.
E-Biking to Lake Crestasee
The Trin Digg–Lake Crestasee route is also described as an e-bike route for beginners and families with child bike trailers. It is listed as an easy route, 22 kilometres long. In Trin Digg, you pass the Sperre Trin Fortress Museum before a short climb to Lake Crestasee. The route also goes through Flims Forest and along the Felsbach Gorge; natural-surface roads take you back to Flims. The listed route profiles differ considerably from that of the Ruinaulta Sut: here, an easy 22-kilometre e-bike route contrasts with a challenging hike.
Bakehouse and Practical Information
An article from winter 2025/26 describes a bakehouse run by Erica Rada on Via La Crusch in Trin-Digg, equipped with a large wood-fired oven. Visitors could bring their own dough, preferably at around 10 a.m. If you’d like to include this in your plans, ask locally about current baking dates.
You can refill bottles with official drinking water at the fountain on Via Digg. It can be reached by train, car, on foot or by bicycle. If local conditions change, it is advisable to check availability locally.
