In Innereriz, options range from a short winter hike to cross-country skiing and sledding, as well as longer hikes and mountain tours. When planning, the routes differ not only in length but also in their starting points and the landscapes they pass through. In winter, trail grooming and accessibility depend on the season and conditions.

Choose winter hiking trails by time and distance

A groomed winter hiking trail leads from Innereriz via Alp Drüschhubel and back. It is about 3 kilometres long, with a walking time of approximately one hour. Grooming is seasonal. A longer option is the Zulg hiking trail: from Innereriz Säge, it follows the Zulg and the cross-country ski trail to Eriz Linden. The route is around 5 kilometres long, with an estimated walking time of approximately one hour and 15 minutes; winter trail conditions may vary by season.

Another winter hiking route leads via Rotmoos to Schangnau. It is about 6 kilometres long, with a walking time of approximately two and a half hours. This gives you a choice of trails to suit different time budgets: about one hour for the loop via Alp DrĂĽschhubel, around 75 minutes for the route to Eriz Linden, and more time for the route to Schangnau. Check winter conditions before setting out, especially on routes whose accessibility depends on them.

Cross-country ski trails, sledding runs and lessons

The main starting point for the winter cross-country ski trails is the Geissegg car park. The Hohgant trail is 6 kilometres long and groomed for both classic and skating. The Zulg trail is listed as 8 kilometres long and is also groomed for both classic and skating. The Eriztal trail is 9 kilometres long and groomed for skating. The trails form loops along the Zulg to GysenbĂĽhl or Bieten and back to the main starting point. When comparing them, consider not only the distance but also whether you want a classic track, a skating track or both.

Innereriz has two sledding runs, each 300 metres long. They are directly accessible via a bridge from the Geissegg car park; availability and winter access may depend on conditions. The Eriz Swiss Ski and Snowboard School offers group and private lessons in skiing and snowboarding. Lessons are seasonal and by arrangement. There is also a secured, fenced winter play area, which is likewise a seasonal offering.

Rotmoos and mountain hikes

The circular hike “On the sunny side of Honegg” starts at Innereriz/Säge and passes alongside the Rotmoos-Breitwang high moor and nature reserve, which covers around 65 hectares. The area has been protected since 1944. Since 1996, Rotmoos has also been included in the inventory of mires of outstanding beauty and national importance. These dates refer to different designations: the protection of the area and its later inclusion in the inventory.

For a mountain hike, the route leads from Innereriz via the Grünenberg Pass through the Hohgant–Seefeld nature reserve to the Gemmenalphorn and on to the Niederhorn. Hiking trails also lead from Lake Thun through the Justistal and via the Sichle to Innereriz, from Sigriswil via the Zettenalp to Innereriz, and from Habkern via the Grünenberg Pass to Innereriz. The hiking landscape between Eriz and Horrenbach-Buchen includes numerous viewpoints and places to stop and enjoy the surroundings.

Starting points and bus connections

The Thun–Eriz bus route serves the stops Eriz, Säge and Garage. Check the timetable before travelling. From the Eriz, Säge stop on route 41 or from Restaurant Säge, a trail leads uphill to Hängschtli and into Rotmoos; check local conditions before setting out. These starting points make it possible to plan your journey and hike around the relevant trail without treating the different routes as if they were the same.
