Kehrsatz between Gurten, Längenberg and the Aare
Accommodation in Kehrsatz
Kehrsatz lies between Gurten, Längenberg and the Aare. Leisure activities include walks on Gurten, cycling tours along the Aare and hikes through the Moos. Local history, puzzle trails and sports facilities add further highlights. For a day’s hike with specific route details, the Gürbetal Höhenweg provides a well-defined option.
Hiking and outdoor activities
The Gürbetal Höhenweg starts at Kehrsatz railway station and ends at Thurnen railway station. Kehrsatz can be reached by train from Bern or Thun for this hike. The moderately difficult hike is 18.2 kilometres long and takes about 5 hours and 30 minutes; it includes 553 metres of ascent and 597 metres of descent. The duration is approximate. These key details make it possible to plan the route as a longer hike, while the elevation figures indicate the ups and downs along the way.
The Höhenweg runs mainly along unpaved trails, with paved sections in between. The cultural landscape is characterised by green meadows, cultivated fields and stately farmhouses. Along the route, there are picnic spots, fire pits and benches, as well as several farm shops that are suitable for a break. Check trail conditions and signage before setting off, as both can change.
Other ways to get active include walks on Gurten, hikes through the Moos and cycling tours along the Aare. The GrĂĽnes Band Bern route offers a different perspective: marked points of interest share informative, amusing and surprising facts about nature and agriculture. Its focus therefore differs from that of the Kehrsatzer Rundweg, which presents the local history.
Puzzle trails and sports
SmarTrail Kehrsatz is a digital puzzle trail that leads to various places in the municipality. It is designed for families with children of preschool and primary school age. The Kehrsatz–Gurten puzzle trail is particularly suited to a family outing and is played in treasure hunt mode. The two activities therefore offer different forms of puzzle-solving: a digital trail and a treasure hunt. SK8 CHÄSITZ has been open to children, teenagers and adults since summer 2021.
The Sportcenter Kehrsatz also offers a range of activities: tennis, badminton, pickleball and table tennis are available there. Check booking and availability before your arrival.
Local history and architecture
The Kehrsatzer Rundweg shares information about the past and present of various sites in the village. Eighteen illustrated information boards explain the history of each location. These include Blumenhof, Lohn and the Ecumenical Centre with St Andrew’s Church. The church is integrated into the centre, which is jointly run by the Reformed parish of Kehrsatz and the Catholic parish of St Michael Wabern-Kehrsatz.
Other sites offer glimpses into different historical periods: extensive Bronze Age settlement remains were discovered in Kehrsatz/Chlywabere. Schlössli Kehrsatz is a former patrician country estate with a renovated extension that combines historic architecture with modern structures. The Lohn estate was built in 1782/83 as an elegant country residence for the ten-member Bernese patrician family of Beat Emanuel and Marie Charlotte von Tscharner. It is listed in the KGS inventory as a cultural property of national significance in Category A. Numerous heads of state and other state guests have been received there. The estate cannot be used from October 2026 to mid-2029 due to renovation work.
A spring event
