Grimmialp lies in Diemtigtal Nature Park at an altitude of around 1,235 metres above sea level. Diemtigtal extends as far as Grimmialp, where Seehorn, Spillgerte, Rauflihorn and Männlifluh form an impressive head of the valley. The various activities differ in nature and operating hours.

Getting there by PostBus

PostBus route 250 connects Oey-Diemtigen with Grimmialp. If you plan to use this service to get there, check the current timetable before travelling. That way, you can plan around the connection instead of inferring the timetable from the activities available on site.

Winter hiking trail and winter sports

The Büchsewäg Grimmialp is a 700-metre-long, illuminated winter hiking trail. It runs from the car park by the Schwenden chapel to Egg, which is 50 metres higher. The trail operates seasonally, from the first Sunday of Advent until mid-March. For a winter visit, this is a clearly defined option alongside the ski area: you can make a short walk or winter sports the focus of your plans.

The small Grimmialp hiking and winter sports area has around 10 kilometres of ski runs. Its lift facilities include a three-seat chairlift with a conveyor belt at the entrance, a ski lift and a children's rope tow. Lift facilities and winter operations may change; check the latest information if you plan to base your stay around the ski area.

Adventure trails in different seasons

The Grimmimutz Trail combines a story with play stations, nature observation and activities that encourage a mindful approach to nature. Alongside the story, it features tasks and nature-related themes. If this combination appeals to you, you can consider the trail as a distinct focus when choosing when to travel.

Another option is the GrimmiJutz experience: this six-kilometre mountain trail starts at the top station of the Grimmialp cable cars and is open on weekends from mid-May to October. Its nine stations include puzzles and interactive tasks, as well as singing and yodelling. The final station leads to the GrimmiJutz-StĂĽbli, where traditional musical instruments are on display. Seasonal opening dates for the cable car and trail may vary; check them before planning your trip.

Mountain biking, paragliding and natural surroundings

GrimmialpBike is an easy 18.48-kilometre mountain bike loop starting and ending at Tiermatti in Schwenden. Along the way, the route passes steep cliffs, mountain forests and alpine pastures at the head of Diemtigtal Nature Park. Compared with the six-kilometre GrimmiJutz mountain trail, it is longer and designed as a mountain bike loop; the two routes therefore differ both in activity and stated length.

Paragliding is another activity mentioned: the area by the top station of the Grimmialp chairlift is suitable for take-off, and there is a signposted landing site in the valley. Confirm take-off and landing arrangements locally before flying. Information about the terrain and landing site does not replace this coordination.

For a look beyond Grimmialp: the approximately 16-kilometre-long Diemtigtal is a side valley of Simmental and, since 2011, has shared the Regional Nature Park label with parts of the municipality of Zweisimmen. Diemtigtal is also home to the Kraftort Grimmiwasser mountain trail. This place of power features a moorland landscape, rare alpine flowers and red, iron-rich springs. Its landscape offers a different character from the mountain scenery at the head of the valley near Grimmialp.

Hotel history in the Bernese Oberland

The history of the area includes the Grand-Hotel Grimmialp, which opened as one of five prestigious grand hotels in the Bernese Oberland. This historical connection complements the landscapes and activities that shape a stay in Grimmialp today.
