Vårgårda offers a range of options for a stay: cycling and hiking alongside art and cycling history, with a nature reserve also among the possibilities nearby. When looking for a hotel in Vårgårda, you can first choose the focus of your stay: a longer bike ride, downhill runs, a hike or cultural destinations.

Cycling: downhill runs and a regional route

Kesberget Bikepark offers around ten different downhill runs and several challenging downhill trails. Ljungleden offers a different kind of ride: this regional cycling route is 170 kilometres long and runs from Gothenburg to Falköping. Before reaching Vårgårda, the route passes along small country roads through beautiful surroundings. This makes the bike park’s downhill options quite different from a longer regional cycling connection. The Västtåget train stops at several points along Ljungleden. If you want to combine train travel with cycling, check the timetable and bicycle carriage conditions before your trip.

Hiking longer trails

Gotaleden is a 99-kilometre hiking trail between Gothenburg and Vårgårda. On stage 12, Horla–Vårgårda, the trail runs mostly along unpaved paths through a landscape rich in wildlife and green fields; it also crosses the Säveån River. The stage is considered easy to walk. In terms of distance, Ljungleden, at 170 kilometres, is longer than the 99-kilometre Gotaleden. As one is a cycling route and the other a hiking trail, their lengths represent different ways of travelling. The easy rating refers to walking; “unpaved” describes the surface.

Culture and getting your bearings in town

Badet, Vårgårda’s swimming pool, is centrally located in Centrumhuset, around 100 metres from the train station. Galleri 33 is also centrally located, at Kungsgatan 33. It is the venue of the Vårgårda Art Association and hosts exhibitions and opening receptions. The exhibition “Dessa fantastiska Fåglums” is dedicated to four cycling brothers who conquered the world of cycling. It includes the brothers’ prizes, trophies and awards. This means you can encounter cycling both on the routes and in an exhibition.

The Natur- och Kulturstigen Vårgårda has benches and rest areas along the route. You can take these stopping points into account when planning a walk.

Nature and a seasonal outdoor swimming pool

Near the destination, north of Kärtared, there is a visitor car park for Yxnås. A path into the nature reserve begins across the road; you reach its boundary after about 300 metres. Check local conditions before setting out. The outdoor swimming pool at Tånga Hed is within walking and cycling distance of Vårgårda town centre. Its opening times may vary seasonally, so check when it is open before your visit.
