Hakenäset – between archaeology and coastal landscape
Accommodation in Hakenäset
Hakenäset combines sweeping views with archaeological sites, paths through the landscape and regional culture. The southeastern part of the peninsula offers views across the Hakefjorden and the mainland. Those planning a hotel stay in Hakenäset will find a variety of local points of interest to explore, depending on their interests.
Views and orientation
Seen from the marina, Hakenäset lies on the opposite side of the entrance to Svanviks Kile. This location provides a point of reference at the entrance, while the views from the southeastern part of the peninsula open out across the fjord towards the mainland. The wider Hakefjorden area, with its many islands, offers particularly good opportunities for recreation on land and water, as well as nature and cultural experiences. This larger fjord area provides the regional setting; views across the Hakefjorden are also part of Hakenäset’s specific landscape.
Passage grave and settlement history
Gullhögen, a passage grave, is located near Berga on Hakenäset. It is one of the small passage graves with a rounded chamber that are typical of Bohuslän. The chamber has a diameter of just over two metres, and the passage is just under three metres long. The passage is therefore longer than the chamber is wide, though both measurements are in the range of a few metres. This makes the grave’s proportions easy to understand.
An previously unknown Pitted Ware settlement was discovered alongside Gullhögen. Another archaeological point of interest is Valla 489: the settlement is considered well preserved, with features and finds in situ, that is, in their original context. Its educational potential is also considered high. The archaeological themes therefore range from the passage grave to settlement remains, offering different insights into the area’s history.
Paths and views
The Berga promenades route followed paths between the farms up to Porsdalen, then downhill to Sandviken. From Porsdalen, there are views across the Hakefjorden. The return to Berga hamn followed the cliffs along the water. These route features combine views across the fjord with a path between farms and along the coastline.
A guided hike through Bökeviken and Hakenäset in 2025 was about five kilometres long and followed forest trails, hilly paths and wooded areas. This is a specific hike from that year, not a general time or distance estimate for other trails. By comparison, the Berga promenades focus on paths between the farms, Porsdalen and the cliffs by the water. If you are planning a hike, check the conditions on the specific trail in advance.
Nature by the fjord
Hakenäset is considered a habitat for woodpeckers, including many green woodpeckers and occasional black woodpeckers. Harbour porpoises are also occasionally sighted in the Hakefjorden area near Hakenäset. Wildlife observations here range from forest birds to marine mammals in the fjord; harbour porpoise sightings remain occasional and are not a reliably scheduled activity.
Produce, art and local history
Linds lantbruk produces beef and potatoes, which it sells directly from the farm and to nearby shops. The farm has been KRAV-certified since 1994. The animals stay outdoors year-round and have access to shelter. For travellers interested in regional produce, the products and the two ways of buying them offer a tangible connection to the area.
Thomas Nilsson runs a studio near Hakenäset, where he works in graphic art and painting. Visiting opportunities may vary by season; confirm them if you are planning a studio visit. Berga hamn also has a historical connection to local culture: a tar distillery operated there in the 1750s.
Planning your stay
If you choose Hakenäset for a hotel stay, take the specific conditions of your plans into account. Check the condition of the trail if you are planning a hike, and confirm seasonal studio visiting opportunities in advance.
