Rävö: Trails, Bays and Birdwatching
Accommodation in Rävö
When looking for a hotel in Rävö, it’s worth first identifying your travel interests: Is your main focus getting oriented in the recreation area, coastal landscapes or birdwatching? In the Rävö recreation area, trails and shared facilities are part of the landscape; the bays and observation sites add other nature-related points of interest. This distinction makes planning easier, because infrastructure, landscape features and observation sites each offer a different focus.
Getting oriented in the Rävö recreation area
The shared property of the Rävö recreation area includes roads and footpaths, as well as a beach and a boat jetty. The area is divided into three sections; orientation maps and information are available at the entrance to each section. It is therefore helpful to know which section you’re in: the maps and information are located at its entrance. This makes the layout of the recreation area a useful reference point when planning.
The shared boat jetty for the recreation area is at Dillehuvudet. A walking and cycling path leads to the older boat jetty at Dillehuvudet. This adds a specific route to a destination to the general information about roads and footpaths. If you’re planning your stay on foot or by bicycle, the path to the older jetty is a distinct local landmark; the shared facilities provide the wider context.
There is also a bathing area with a bathing jetty at Dillehuvudet on Rävö. If this spot is important to your plans, check the current condition of the facility before visiting.
Coastal landscapes and nature
Älgöleran is a very shallow sea bay near Styrsholmen and Rundö, close to Råssö, and is part of the EU’s Natura 2000 ecological network. Orrevikskilen is also a shallow sea bay, with large areas of grazed coastal meadows that are flooded at high tide. The two locations therefore have different coastal features: the very shallow bay at Älgöleran and the grazed coastal meadows at Orrevikskilen, which are flooded at high tide.
The recreation area’s shared property also includes extensive woodland and green spaces, as well as lush gardens, covering a total of more than 40 hectares, and is home to abundant plant and animal life. This offers a different perspective for nature planning than the bays: here, the focus is on a larger shared area of woodland, green spaces and gardens, while Älgöleran and Orrevikskilen stand out for their shoreline features.
Birdwatching and trails
At Nöddökilen, an elevated birdwatching platform can be reached via Rävövägen. The Orrevikskilen birdwatching tower is near the road towards Rossö. The directions differ: for Nöddökilen, the reference is access via Rävövägen; for the tower, it is its location near the road towards Rossö. Check the current condition of the observation facilities before visiting.
