Discover Hedekas
Accommodation in Hedekas
Hedekas is a natural starting point for excursions in Sörbygden. A range of activities are central to planning your visit: walks, cycling, running, hiking and boules. This gives you a way to get your bearings in Hedekas by considering specific opportunities for physical activity and the landscape of Kynnefjäll. The artwork “Det dansande ägget” also offers a cultural point of reference. The activities vary in type and route length, giving you different points to consider when planning your stay.
A lit trail for every season
The approximately 2-kilometre-long lit trail is located behind the Hedekas community centre. It is open to the public year-round for walking, cycling and running. The same route is therefore intended for three types of activity. When planning your activities, its approximate length gives you a concrete measure of the trail.
When there is snow and conditions are suitable, the trail is groomed for cross-country skiing. At those times, it may only be used on skis so that the tracks are not damaged. Year-round use for walking, cycling and running should be distinguished from this conditional winter rule: when the trail is groomed, it may only be used on skis.
Cycling and hiking in the region
Sörbygdenrundan is a 48-kilometre cycling route. Its length is on a different scale from the approximately 2-kilometre-long lit trail. The lit trail can also be used for cycling, as well as walking and running; Sörbygdenrundan is designated as a cycling route. Comparing the route lengths helps you distinguish between the two options by their scope.
Several hiking trails on Kynnefjäll start in Kasebo, just north of Hedekas. Kasebo is therefore a specific point of reference for these trails. Kynnefjäll itself is a plateau area: it is bordered to the west by the depression of Bullaresjöarna and to the east by the Örekilsälven valley. The very low-soil plateau is crossed by parallel rift valleys with watercourses and, in many places, elongated lakes. These features place the hiking trails in a landscape of plateaus, valleys and bodies of water. Kynnefjäll is also part of the EU Natura 2000 network.
Boules and Handlarrundan
Hedekas Boule Hall has four indoor and five outdoor boules courts, making nine courts in total. The difference between the two areas is clear: there is one more court outdoors than indoors. If boules is among your travel interests, you can take this layout into account when planning your visit.
Places for Handlarrundan are booked by phone through the Trogens Place shop in Hedekas. Confirm the contact details before travelling. This lets you treat booking this activity as a separate item in your plans.
An artwork with a floating name
The artwork “Det dansande ägget” got its name because it looks as if it is hovering lightly above the place. The name draws attention to the idea behind the title: an egg that does not seem to rest firmly on the ground. If, alongside trails, hiking and boules, you are also interested in an artwork and the origin of its name, this explanation offers another point of interest.
