Ed between lakes, trails and history
Accommodation in Ed
Ed lies on a headland between the lakes Stora Le and Lilla Le, enclosing Lake Lilla Le. This location shapes how visitors find their way around the town, while the trails offer different perspectives on the landscape, nature and history. The trail lengths and their respective themes are a useful starting point for planning your trip.
Lake scenery and nature
SkansenomrĂĄdet is a nature reserve in the centre of Ed. It is distinguished by its diverse flora and park-like character. About 8 km north of Ed, Stora Les branter lies on the eastern shore of Stora Le. Features of the reserve include old trees with thick trunks, rare plants, lichens and mosses, as well as various bird species.
Trails by length and theme
The trails differ both in length and in what they highlight along the way. Vita leden is 4.6 km long and runs alongside Lilla Le, along paths, gravel stretches and paved roads through residential areas. Blåa leden is 11.3 km long; much of it runs within the town, and the route is gently hilly. Röda leden is 24.5 km long and goes around the town and north past Tavlan; it is also gently hilly.
The approximately 8 km-long Istidsleden focuses on how the landscape was formed: information boards explain how the inland ice shaped the area around Ed. This provides concrete differences to consider when choosing a trail, such as its length, whether it runs within or around the town, and its focus on landscape formation.
Culture and local history
Dals-Eds kyrka stands on higher ground beside Lake Lilla Le. It is also linked to the medieval tradition of pilgrimages to Nidaros. The church and the lake thus offer two distinct points of reference for seeing Ed: its lakeside setting and the town’s religious history.
The market in Ed is a long-standing tradition. In modern times, it has taken place almost continuously since 8 October 1949, with the exception of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is held in spring and autumn, and the programme includes pony rides for children. Traffic through the town centre is closed during the market. As traffic arrangements may change from one market to the next, check the latest dates and traffic information before travelling.
Collections and other activities
Eds MC- och motormuseum is in the centre of Ed, in the basement of the Willys grocery store. The museum and Willys share the same entrance. The collection includes around 150 vintage motorcycles, mopeds and outboard motors from several countries. The museum also displays 300 radios.
Dals-Eds DiscGolfPark is a 9-hole course at the Sågtjärn bathing area. From Storgatan, drive about one kilometre towards Nössemark and turn left at the Dals-Eds DiscGolfPark sign. The directions thus provide a specific landmark to help you find your way there.
Dalslands Moose Ranch is located at Södra Moränvägen 68, 66831 Ed. Visitors can feed the moose, though this activity may not always be available. Check before your visit to find out whether moose feeding is offered.
